I will never learn..off topic

Howdy

I am generous by nature and grateful that I am not in any financial need. I do enjoy lending a helping hand when the oppurtunity arises.

Today was such a day or so I thought. I live in a resort town year round for the last 8 years. In all that time I have been approached once by a person on the street asking for a hand out. Today makes two.

As?I was biking on the sidewalk heading for a parking spot at the dry cleaners a woman with a sad and needy look started toward me begging for money. I rode right past her as if she was not there. I did not like that?I ignored her so I stopped and?signalled her too me.

She acted thankful and said any amount would be appreciated. I pulled out my wallet looking for a five but saw only ones and twenties. What the hell I pulled out a twenty and handed it to her. She blessed me or whatever but honestly I was expecting a more surprised response at the amount.

She turned the corner and I could not believe what I saw when I spotted her. She was walking away and talking on a cell phone.

My first reaction was to call the police and have her arrested for scamming me. But I could not do it.

I really did not know what she was saying but having a cell phone and begging on the street were strange bedfellows to say the least.

I know many are against giving money to panhandler and consider the act enabling. In some case this
true for sure. Hopefully I have?helped some along the way.

Maybe she called some friends to let them know there was a good play in
the area. Did you get hit on by some others before going home? Did the
ones who got to you after you were pissed and not handing out anymore
cash complain that too many people knew about it? Is this the
panhandlers version of burning down a good play?

I believe everything that happens to you?in life has many lessons on many levels. It is up to you to find them and act upon them to make you a more conscious human being.

That aside I am impressed with your knowledge of con artist jargon....Grumpy

LOL! If the person says they are hungry, I buy them food. Have learned not to offer money. Seems some panhandlers make more a year than I do:)

Kudos. I've admired a businessman who I witnessed take 10 minutes out
of his schedule to stand in line at a McDonald's, buying lunch for a
panhandler in tow.

Likewise, I'm impressed by a morning commuter I've observed who bought
breakfast on her way out of the train station and dropped it by a
homeless man who sleeps on the bridge sidewalk she crosses daily.

Can't say that I've taken a page out of their (or your) book, as of yet.
