I Just Don't Understand

So I am leaving MonteLago after my weekly visit and I remember the
post here about Spin Poker Deluxe @ Fiesta Henderson, so rather then
head north on Boulder Highway, I keep going west on Lake Mead to the
Fiesta. I can't recall the last time I was there; maybe I had never
been there. But it seemed okay, even late at night, so I parked and
went in. Found the SPD machines; 4 slant top and 4 upright. Yes,
they have one and two cent denominations, but the paytables were so
pathetic that I just couldn't bring myself to play, especially at
100 credits a pop. But I did find plenty of solace in the single
line Optimum Play machines and the Top Picks machines. Had two good
hits to make the stop well worthwhile. Even saw this crazy dice game
called Ricochet where they roll 3 dice.

Anyway, during my hour or so there, I was eventually struck by the
observation that although the casino was not crowded, there were
more than a few people playing various VP games. Yet at all of the
banks of machines I was at, there were no other players. What am I
missing here? Why would so many people choose to ignore better
paytables on machines three or four steps away? It's not like it was
a bunch of tourists there; my guess is that most would be considered
regulars. Like the Subject says, I Just Don't Understand, and I want
to know. Merry Christmas.

Consider it the gift that keeps on giving and next time you encounter
a not so gracious player in the casino cut them a break to the extent
that their less than enlightened play may go far in keeping strong vp
in the house. (I'm especially tickled when I find a multigame bank
with near 100% game selections largely occupied by players of 7/5
DDB :wink:

My wife has played around 180K hands at the various Optimums and
NEVER had nor seen a RF on any of them ... If anyone else experienced
this kind of luck I'm not surprised they would try other machines.

In any event, there are not all that many advantage players, even
among locals.

You have observed that the vast majority of gamblers do not use the brain
that God gave them. I have never noticed a huge difference between the
average vp playing tourist and local. I have noticed that LV probably has a
larger number of highly skilled players (Very positive plays can resemble
chum being tossed into shark infested waters), but this is a very small
percentage of the vp playing public.

That would be because 99.9% of the players don't have a clue about optimum
play and positive ER. That of course is the good news. The bad news is that
the casinos will not be happy until 100% are clueless. Unfortunately, the
more players that learn optimum play for 100+% return games, the fewer
positive expectation machines there will be. This will continue until there
are no positive ER machines left on the floor. Comps and cash back have
already been slashed for positive expectation VP and thousands of pay tables
have been downgraded in the past two years. It appears the way to go in the
world of video poker today is $1+ NSUD/JOB multiline games. Of course this
requires a HUGE bankroll and Rastis expects that loop hole to be closed
sooner than later. The VP genie is out of the bottle. The goose that lays
the Golden Eggs is now called Online Poker. Until the G closes this loop
hole, you can find half the rake with no dealer tokes at more than twice the
speed of brick and motor games via the miracle of the internet. But my lips
are sealed so I can't say anything more! SILENCE IS GOLDEN.
