I'll take a shot at playing peacemaker here... I don't think Nudge is commenting on Rob, just the use of the phrase "hit the hammer on the nail" (I think they were trying to say: "hit the nail on the head"). It sounds like something Yogi would say.

I think John's analysis hits the hammer on the nail... er, I mean
nails the wood on the head....ummm that is, hammers the nail
home...no, I mean heads the nail through the wood with the hammer
while striking it directly on top....oh never mind.
