H's New Orleans & children

<<One thing to note if you are taking your family with you to New Orleans is that they are VERY strict about checking ID's at the door. Not 21? You cannot even walk thru the casino. That means that they cannot be taken to the buffet or other restaurants inside the casino. Bummer.>>

Bummer, for sure. We have been to Harrah's NO several times, but I just never noticed there were no children in the restaurants. We had planned to take my daughter and her family there during the Christmas vacation. The two grandchildren are now teenagers and we thought there would be more to do with them there - sightseeing, etc.- but we had planned to use our $500 we get for food on our 7* trip to feed them most of the time.

We could go to Biloxi instead, where there isn't that casino restaurant restriction - but there is so little for teenagers to do there. We went there in the summer of '07 and they spent a lot of time at the outdoor pool - but that is not an option in December. And you can only spend so much time (and money) in arcades!!!!

What other options in NO might we have for free food using the $500 and reward credits? Can you get room service in the hotel? That would be great for breakfast. What about outside restaurants that can be comped - I think a lot of them are fairly "fancy" and expensive? Are there any that are more casual, suitable for lunches that teenagers like - pizza, burgers, and sandwiches???

One of the best things about using Harrah's for a NO vacation is that comps
(rewards/coupons) can be used at "partner" restaurants. I haven't been
there in a while and things may have changed, but there were dozens of non
casino restaurants in the Quarter and elsewhere for me to pig out on
Harrah's dime. If this is still policy, they have a list of restaurants at
vip services. Some tourist attraction tickets could also be comped.

Gordon Biersch is right across from the hotel, outside of the casino.
It's casual and there shouldn't be any child restrictions. Ruth's Cris
is now in the hotel. Fuddrucker's is in the casino, but you should be
able to go over and get take out burgers to bring back to the kids.
They have no regular coffee shop type restaurant in the casino, so we
always ended up at the buffet which is overpriced and not that good
anyway.

I probably should've mentioned that, unless they've recently changed
the rules, the $500 7 Stars comp can only be used at places in the
hotel and casino anyway.

Jean,

Here's a list of restaurants and attractions at which you can use your Total Rewards
Credits. I'm not sure if you can use the special offer from the mailer, but a call will answer
that for you, I'm sure. I got the list from harrahs.com. Go to Harrah's NO casion web
page, choose "dining", then choose "New Orleans Partners" from the menu in the upper
right.
