OK, I'm green, but I'm going to the casinos more now and I do get a
little nervous at the amount of cash I might be carrying around. Can
someone give me some good tips--hotel safe, travelers checks (I don't
like them), ATM machines (hard to find and usually the wrong bank in
case you wanted to make a deposit), or what??? Thanks
How to Handle Money?

The utility of a casino credit line has been noted. They're very easy
to arrange -- there's a quick call to your bank and a simple credit
check that is typically pretty tolerant of modest account
delinquencies -- they just want to make sure you don't leave folks
high and dry, or don't have chronic payment problems that suggest
there's reason to have concern that funds will be on hand when they
run your marker through your bank for collection (typically after 10
days) -- you can, alternatively, settle the marker with cash before
leaving the casino.
A room safe, which you note, is a good option -- but I have a chronic
fear that, being a little forgetful, I'll forget to pull my stuff out
when checking out.
Another option to consider, particularly for an extended trip, is a
"front money" (LV term)/"safekeeping" (AC term) account. This
essentially uses the casino as a short term bank.
You deposit funds with the cage upon arrival, and pull/deposit funds
during your stay as desired. You can even arrange to wire transfer
funds to the casino in advance of your stay (I've done this for
extended LV trips where I didn't want to even travel with the cash,
much less keep it in the room).
Another advantage to the wire transfer is that if your trip is
successful and you end with a net profit, the casino can reverse the
original transfer back to your bank and you need only return with your
ill-gotten lucre.
On a multiple casino stay I walk the cash from one casino upon
checkout to the next and immediately put the funds back on deposit.
True to my nature, I managed to get on the plane once having forgotten
to hit the cage before leaving -- although the casino won't generally
close out a front money account via check, they kindly relented when I
assured them I had no immediate plans for a return from Philly.

I like to play all over the place and refuse to use ATM machines in LV because of the rip-off
fees (all except for the Western Union one in the plaza at Harrah's). I use a "waist stash "
money belt under my clothing that I wear whenever I carry more cash than I normally would
and always stay in a hotel that has a room safe. I have tried everything else (including wiring
funds to the casino in advance,markers..etc) and find that this works best for me.

We always use travelers checks. I get them from our bank for free and can cash them at any casino with no hassle. We generally play at multiple casinos on any gambling trip, so I don't need to open a credit line at mulitple places if I use the checks. They can also be used at restaurants, etc.

When moving from hotel to hotel on extended Las Vegas trips with large
sums I often put the cash in my shoe rather than in a pocket. I have
heard of people having money stolen from their pockets but not from
their shoes. Several thousand dollars wrapped in a quart size sandwich
bag also makes a comfortable, although pricey, arch support.

A money belt is one option. I also have a pouch
which hangs around one's neck which I keep my passport
in and sometimes some benjies. It can be worn inside a
shirt. Also, establishing credit lines and putting up
front money reduces the amount of cash one has on
their person. A few places, (Nevada Palace comes to
mind) will give out the paycheck cashing promotion to
out-of-towners that cash traveler's checks.
