How stupid are they ?

Hi,
I just received an invite from Caesars Palace to get on their VIP
check-in check-out list. Now listen to what they'll "do for me" as a
VIP ( diamond card ?)..

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE : "..we'll make every effort to expedite the
preparation of your room/suite.."

ONCE YOU'RE HERE: "....check your bags with bellman, and go to the
Diamond Registration Area. The next available representative will
assist you. Show your drivers license....pick up your room keys..."

COMPS: Sign meals and drinks to your room...After you've departed
we'll check your account for any applicable charges."

DUH...Isn't this what registration and departure from a
casino/hotel always entails ?

         Larry Feldman

I'm surprised they didn't mention the availability of pillows for the
beds in your room!

This Diamond status hype is really getting out of hand I think.

Actually, no it isn't. The one thing on the list you provided that is
worth something is you get to use the Diamond check in. Usually (not
always) the lines there are much shorter than the lines for non-VIPs.
And if you have some sort of special request, the attendants working
this check in line are usually more empowered to help you than "normal"
attendants.

I am a Platinum member. At Rio, I have never checked in at the Platinum
check-in area because the regular check-in always has less people waiting -
and, often, no people waiting.

It's a similar situation at the Venetian. I am supposed to check-in at the
'Invited Guests' check-in. But, there are only two clerks at the 'Invited
Guests' check-in and a dozen clerks at the regular check-in. The regular
check-in is almost always quicker than the 'Invited Guests' check-in.

On the contrary, at the Flamingo, I always check-in at the Platinum/Diamond
check-in because the never seems to be a wait there.

I suppose it just depends on the hotel and the time of day.

I think Larry's point was that, in order to get the VIP mailer which I also received, you have to be Diamond in the first place, so everything they listed *seems* to be the same as what you already get. If in fact there will be a separate area for those who received the mailer and mailed back the reply card, then of course it's worth doing. But there was no indication of that in the mailer itself.

About the only thing I could find that seemed different than what I already get as a Diamond member is that you can supply a credit card number in advance so that all of your checkins are faster.....I guess. I'm with Larry on this one. I'm not sure what the benefits are. But I'll probably send it in anyway.

Bonus points on machines at Caesars seem to be awarded at a pathetically low rate compared to other Harrah's properties, at least on the machines I've played so far. has anyone else noticed this?

The $5 NSU machines said that they awarded ZERO bonus points for 100, 200, even 300 base points!! However, after I went to another machine, I had a piddly 64 bonus points! Then, after playing on a $5 5-play 9/6 JoB machine, the bonus points continued to be awarded at the same pathetic rate. I haven't tried any of the high-limit JoB machines yet; I'll post my findings later. But at Rio, Harrah's, and Flamingo, I usually get bonus points at a rate of about 3-4 times the base points, even on $5 JoB.

Maybe Caesars just isn't quite finished with the conversion yet.

Can't respond to the Caesars situation directly, but other Harrah's
properties have pulled the same trick with their good vp.

Well, I'm a Diamond, but did not fill out the Super-Duper VIP
survey/card. I was at Rio in March, and I had about $90 charged to my
room. I was running a little late on the morning I left, so I called
from the airport and got the answering machine in the Diamond
checkout. I left a message saying I was checking out and to please
deduct my room charges from my points (I had plenty of points). When
I got my credit card statement, I saw they charged my card instead. I
guess I should call them but I haven't yet. Perhaps if I had signed
up for the Super-Duper VIP treatment they would have taken care of
me.

Ouch. That's a pretty big deal. I usually count 3.5x at Harrah's
or Rio (i.e., 4.5 total points for each $10 c/i). That with the
little cash voucher they mail is all that makes it palatable.

Closer examinatino of the VIP Program Pre-Authorization Form card reveals that you can specify room preferences, such as smoking/non-smoking, low/high floor, and what tower you prefer. Also, whether you want any charges deducted from your RC balance, and where the statement should be sent (email/fax/mail).

I thought they already remembered such preferences, but perhaps they did not, hence the establishment of this system. I know other properties remember my preferences, perhaps Harrah's properties previously did not? Still slightly puzzled.

Play on $25 JoB machines gave a better ratio, but it was still under 3 to 1 bonus-to-base. I've been getting about 3.8 to 1 at Harrah's, Rio, and Flamingo.

That's encouraging.

Some detail on your play would be helpful. What type of machine
(game, denom, single or n-play, etc.) was this principally on?

What game/denomination were you playing?
