How many games do you know?

I'm fairly new to video poker, and I was curious to know among the
various players on this forum, how many games do you know how to play
well? I know "well" means different things to different people (and
seems to be a point of contention), so how about, "how many games do
you know well enough to play for money?"

I ask because I'm a serious, if occasional, player. I live in
Colorado so my local casinos cannot offer >= 100% games. Therefore I
haven't learned double bonus, for instance, or full-pay deuces. I do
know 9/6 JoB and NSU deuces. I'm taking a short vacation in Vegas
next month so will be able to play some of the better EV games (I play
quarters). I've been trying decide whether to learn double bonus or
FPDW or just stick to the lesser-returning NSU or JoB, which I know
well. I'm curious to know how other folks evaluate what games to
learn. I like to try to maximize EV, for the games I do know I learn
the penalty card situations and all that, but I also realistically
only play in casinos about 8 hours a month normally.

Thanks!
Jon

Doesn't the Pile of Debris offer quarter triple play Super Aces?

(note to Admin: no thank you note needed!)

If you are fluent in NSU then DW will be very easy to pick up.

DB vs jacks is another matter - I play pretty well, but the variance is a killer. I call it the devils game...(-; BTW, I get seasick just sitting at a DDB game! DB is a bit less intuitive than jacks - lots of draws to 3 card flushes vs. 2 high cards, etc. Because of this the royal hits much less frequently too.

When I show up to, say the Main Street Station I make a beeline for those damn 10/7 machines. A hundred or two later I slink away and hit the DW machines to try and catch up, or at least slow the loss rate. Sure, I hit a few now and then, but as I mentioned I usually can't stomach the variance.

That said, I have 14 lifetime quarter royals, 7 of them are on DB. Maybe 20% of my play has been on this game - see why I always head for those first??!

  Good luck!

I think it never hurts to learn new games. I would learn FPDW and

10/7 DB. When you're in LV play some at a different casino. Even if
you don't know those games perfectly you're still playing quality
VP. Establish yourself at several different properties playing high
return games and you'll have offers rolling in in no time. The more
weapons in your arsenal the more options you'll have. It takes time
but keep building on what you already play well.
