How many changing travel plans?

Airfare cost are the highest in years. I know it has caused me to cancel my July 4th trip. I am wondering how many people are changing their plans to Vegas?
(Deciding to postponed, or cancel trip this year.) This question is more for the low end player. Quarter, Half wager.

I share your pain. I'm lucky to have been able to travel a lot to various
Harrah's locations (LAS/MSY) the past couple of years but this year is a
different story. Fares from the New York city area where I live are up about
30-40 percent for the times I can travel (mostly short trips on the
weekends). And trying to book in advance won't help. Was looking for a fare
in November and December - they are about $580 right now to Vegas. Thus
those two trips are on hold if not canceled. Times two to bring the better
half and you start to reconsider a trip regardless of the comps and freebies
you might get. Also, forget about New Years Eve - those fares are out of
sight.

If you are flexible on the days you can go there are still some reasonable
fares to be had. But generally I don't see this getting any better any time
soon given oil prices and airline mergers.

I was wondering the same thing. It used to be a $200 RT non stop from Chicago
was what we would look for (and often find). For awhile it's been closer to
$400. I just found a $300 fare in August on SWA. It has made everyone I know
think twice or consider other carriers or package deals. The rooms seem as cheap
as ever (for those who don't get comped) , but when you read about a lot of the
good VP leaving, places being sold (the latest partnership of Venetian with
Holiday Inn was interesting) makes me consider other options, such as Ak-Chin
outside Phoenix, AC and New Orleans for example. On the other hand, my son and
his friends are now turning 21 and are looking at going as a group in August
because there's no place like Vegas.

You need a little bit of patience for President Obama to get us out from under the mess that former President Bush got us into. Improvements are just around the corner!

I don't think $1+ players are immune to sensitivity to the airfare hikes. For that matter, our LV trips from Phila have been curtailed ever since fares nudged above $250 (I still remember flying on Amer West for $170 pp in 2004).

We used to do 4-6 LV trips annually. The last few years it's been one trip every two years (thinning of strip plays/offers has been a key factor as well).

At current fare levels, it'll likely take an air-paid 7* annual trip (or the like) for us to return.

OK I think the world, America and gambling would all be better
if Wayne Root, the Libertarian was the guy, so there!

Aside from that true, but tongue in cheek comment, I and many
other non-stupid people could make a very good case in the
other direction of the CardFather's comment, so please let's
not make statements like below as if they were 'fact'.

Actually, as I thought about this some more, I see that I made a mistake. Airfares are not going to go down. They will be going up.

If you remember what he said, this is a part of President Obama's plan to "green" the economy. Under his plan, energy costs are going to skyrocket and this is our opportunity to contribute to the cause. We should all be happy to pay our fair share to "save the Earth".

The solution about increased airfares is, again as President Obama recommends, to check your tire inflation and tune your engine (whatever that means with today's high efficiency engines). Further, you should trade in your 8 mpg clunker and buy a GM Chevy Volt. You can then afford the increased airfares with all of the money you will be saving.

But, as President Obama said, you should not be going to Las Vegas anyway.

Airfare cost are the highest in years.

This is not entirely accurate.
It depends on what one is using for their base.
As one example one could have found a round-trip fare from NYC to Las Vegas for under $280, a fare which is not the highest in years.
That price included the ticker, one bag, fees and taxes.
Granted this is not a regular occurrence but such "bargains" can still be found.
That air fare is not the highest in years.

I travel to Las Vegas every August for 10 days. This year I would not have made the trip had it not been for points to purchase my SWA tickets from Islip. Lasy year the fare was $110 per person NON STOP. Now the price has gone to $250 per person and they eliminated the non stop flights. I will not pay this price when I have AC and Conn. so near by, even though I have timeshares in Vegas and am comped at Planet Hollywood for rfb. Historyman

"...At current fare levels, it'll likely take an air-paid 7* annual trip (or the like) for us to return..."

7* rating costs about $10K/year. The free airplane trip ain't worth it. Still can fly from Boston to Vegas for under $300.
That's non-stop with pretty good seats and my own TV.
I'm satisfied with the price of the plane ride. Not satisified with the gambling once we get there:-)

Maybe for some; maybe not for others.

we took minimum 12 trips a year to vegas from the east coast. haven't been there in over a year. Airfare is too high, all the places that treated us well have been blown up and what is left could give a rip about our meager gambling roll.......we were treated very well when the Stardust, the Ho and The Frontier were there. Hope they are making lots of money where those properties used to be, it's just not from us..................

Well none of those properties is LOSING money-which not every place in Nevada can say.
So maybe a dirt lot is an improvement!
I do miss those 3 specific properties myself. Give downtown a try. I haven't played at Main Street in 7 years and still get email offers.

I know THE properties aren't losing money, but the companies that tried to go upscale can't be doing too well with their "piles of dirt and rusty guirders aren't making a heapload there.
