How long will diamond status guarantee free rooms?

Not a Harrahs casino regular, but I had a hot streak on my December trip to AC and early in January was notified I am now Diamond (DIAD, I presume, since this was the first time playing in a Harrahs casino since 2005). Two related questions:

1. I believe my diamond status runs through March of 2012 ?;

2. I was surprised to see that I now qualify for free rooms, including weekends, at upscale places like Caesers LV. I found this out by clicking on dates on their website reservations engine. Hypothetically, how long can I use the free room "offers" if I play little, or even nothing, during those stays? Will Harrahs drop me quickly, or will I continue to get free rooms through March 2012, no matter what my play level is? Does it matter if I stay on a weekend or on a weekday when rooms are usually cheaper?

Thanks in advance for your input, feel free to pm if you would prefer.

I don't know about your level of play, but I used to be an infrequent visitor to Harrah's properties who played a ton on each trip. I have essentially become a former gambler due to the demands of the rest of my life. I haven't hit any casino, let along a Harrah's property, in well over a year and I can still get free rooms in Vegas on pretty much any w/e at any Harrah's property except Caesar's (I get reduced rates there).

I suspect it has as much to do with the occupancy rate as anything else.

I am a 7 star player and my husband is diamond. Probably half my points for my 7 star (which average over 400,000 each year) come from Las Vegas. I almost always stay at Caesars.

My husband makes diamond by a few extra thousand each year. Yet his offers are sometimes better than mine when it comes to rooms and events. He will get offers for events that I don't receive. They do send me offers for events, including Macy's and other shopping cards, and average about $1200 each offer. My husbands are a lot less.

I've noticed a lot depends on your host in Vegas. The host I had is no longer there, but he always gave me great offers and allowed me to use two offers in one trip. He always provided a suite, and was there if I needed him

My new host never gives me any extras, never contacts me before I arrive, while I'm there or after I leave, though I make all my reservations through him. He will give my husband a room if it is not a busy weekend, but for Superbowl gave me two, and would not give my husband or two daughters a room, though they are all diamond players.

The other properties in Las Vegas are more generous, especially Harrah's and Paris. Paris has nice rooms and nice beds.

A lot of the stuff you get in LV depends on if you play there, which is different then all the other locations I go to. Every other location will fly me there, put me up in a suite, give me spending money, buy all my food. Though LV is great to visit, your value is more available at other properties.

Though I don't play at Bellagio a lot, they have been giving me great offers. With my suite, I get free food, free room service, free mini bar, and playing money. And I like their VP a lot more, and have a lot more luck.

Good luck.

My understanding of the current DIAD program is that if you achieve it in December, it will be good for the next full year and until end of March of the following year (so yes, March 2012 in your case).

The free rooms have everything to do with your amount of play and nothing to do with your new Diamond status. If you take a few trips and don't play or play very little, those free room offers will go away (even though you will still have Diamond status).
If you intend to go that route, book for multiple trips now via the online system while the rooms are comped.
When you stay doesn't really matter, but you are more likely to get free rooms (and better room types) during the week than the weekend.
It is worth noting that even if the free rooms found just by checking dates on the reservation calendar go away, offers may still come in for a while that will get you free rooms. The Summerfest and Winterfest offers are perks of Diamond status and guarantee free rooms during those tournaments even if you would no longer qualify for free rooms based upon your current level of play.

Take Care,
Mark

I used to be Platinum, but lost that since I didn't play at any Harrah's casinos in 2010. However, I have offers through the summer. I think the recession has helped my extended offers. Either that or they are looking at my last five years and are trying to get me back. Not sure.

You will get rooms offers from here to AC till 2012. Take Ceasars because they fall off first.

So did you play VP to get this surprise DIAD result? I too went several years between a Harrahs (CET now) visit, 1996-2004, but they found me in the system to issue my Total Rewards II card, no newbie sign-up.

Two related questions:

1. I believe my diamond status runs through March of 2012 ?;

Does notified mean they sent you Diamond Cards with a March 2012 date on them? Traditionally, HET made some fanfare about picking up new cards in April.

It is not clear if you are a regular visitor to AC needing a room, or are looking into the future for your next visit, way down the road? So no snail mail yet for you? It took about three months for me after doing DIAD, on purpose, in Laughlin before the mail kicked-in.

My DIAD was an experiment in January 2005. The offers kicked-in for March and peeked during the Summer months...tourneys with three course banquet food or outdoor shows. I booked several weekends in 2005. Other mailers wanted me to visit Reno, N.O., Rincon but never Phoenix Ak-Chin, my first choice. My Diamond comped room experience concluded at the Rio for Winterfest in December. They got maybe $5k in action on VP for the rest of 2005.

The specials and comped rooms dried-up, but back then I was good to visit the Diamond Lounge until April Fools, 2007. Ah, the olden' days.
