How Important Is The Bottom Line ?

Howdy

I am a .25 JB player most of the time with over half a mil put thru
annually. I used to play at an AC casino that was very generous with their offers.
Though their buffet was terrible and their club was even worse I played their
because I was way ahead in the money department. The ambience sucked too.

Their offers and CB began to dwindle so I sought out another place to play.
I chose the Borgata because the place was top class in food and overall
appearance. The stickler is they are among the least generous when it comes to
slot dollars and all other offers. There is no cash back at all.

I continue to go simply because they inventory my machines in abundance and
the food is excellent. The floor servers are easy on the eyes also.

My question is would you be willing to sacrifice better offers for a
classier casino that you enjoyed frequenting? I do.

I think I do too, and my criteria are much the same--good atmosphere and
good food. I have to admit, that's one of the main reasons I've stuck with
Stations...Red Rock is has a great ambience, and there are plenty of good
food options there where I can redeem points for a great meal. Compared to
the smoke smell and food offerings at other "locals" casinos, I think that's
where Red Rock comes out ahead.

However, that said, with my mailer being cut significantly, I'm looking for
alternatives.

I'm curious, can anyone recommend what they think is the best STRIP and the
best OFF STRIP casinos for LOCALS in the following categories:

1) Ambience and Quality of Food

2) Offers (i.e., bounce back, free play, comps, etc.) for LOCALS.

3) Playable Games (i.e., 8/5 Bonus, 9/6 JOB, etc...in this case, "playable"
might not equal "positive", since we're considering other "enjoyment"
factors and not just profitability).

4) Overall - i.e., "The Bottom Line", as Grumpy puts it.

For me, in my VERY LIMITED experience trying different casinos, I think
it's:

1) Strip - Planet Hollywood (?), Off Strip - Red Rock

2) Strip - Wynn (only one I've tried), Off Strip - Red Rock (until recent
mailer cuts)

3) Strip - Planet Hollywood (8/5 Bonus), Off Strip - Red Rock

4) Strip - Wynn, Off Strip - Red Rock

Cheers,

Hi again Grump

As you know for me; CASH IS KING!!!

However, I don't want to stay in a rat trap. I can see a really good
advantage to Harrahs marketing strategay. Cross marketing their
properties and training the players to look for the comps across the
country is a slam dunk, in my opinion. So the gamblers in AC can use
comp points in Tahoe to get comp rooms and food saving $$ and
getting a free stay at a destination vacation resort. So I would
guess that the majority of the folks want ambiance. Also, second
would be comp points in order to get free rooms. I don't think most
of the players have a clue about game inventory as most are slot
players. It seems to work for Harrahs, but I don't know for sure.

For me I like to base out of one casino. We usually travel for 7 -
10 days. It's interesting to me how going to the same casino
frequently is like going to home away from home. When I stayed
Mirage frequently I remember the smell of the water when decending
the escalater from parking. I knew I was home. Mirage had 9/6 JOB
in flat tops and that 3 line western game with .6%CB. When home was
LVH, walking into the sports book and the sounds of the book
signaled home. Ambiance was nice in both. In the 90s it was
Frontier. The ambiance was ok. But after staying for years it was
home. It even had a smell; not necessarly bad in 90s. Sorta like a
hotel smell. When you entered you were home. The CB was zero but
comps were good and I liked the progressives. You could secure the
comp rooms with about an hour of dollar play. You could also cash
comp points for silver dollars at the gift shop. So comp points
could actually produce some cash.

For me, ambiance counts but cash, promos and coupons are king.

Cheers...Jeep

If you put thru $500K annually suggets you seek out a host at the Borgata as in all Vegas Boyd Properties have found th eservices of a host invaluable. I am sure they woul dstart you off at casino rate and work your way up to comps and more depending on your play per trip.

No. I'm a hard core gambler. I could really do without the Disney/OC
fluff. I'm certainly not interested in "carnival games" and I'm not
interested in getting fleeced, no matter how sexually attractive the
fleecers are. And actually I enjoy the seedy Rat Pack atmosphere,
though maybe the crime level could be backed down a bit. Or, on the
other hand, let everyone carry a concealed weapon, that would level
the playing field, just like in the old west. Gambling is basically
just a very dirty activity, you gots your winners and you gots your
losers, and the losers generally are not very happy about losing, the
winners have to be content with getting out the side door in time with
their winnings.

The bottom line is almost everything. Last week I was in Las Vegas again.
I had a freebie room at Paris and a lot of time to myself. I didn't play a
machine on the Strip for days. I had no desire to give action unless I had
some expectation of coming out on top. I don't have the need for action and
I find no pleasure in it which is not to say that I don't enjoy myself while
playing. On the morning I flew into town I took the shuttle over to GC,
walked across the street to the Palms and found the fpdw prog meter in a
nicely fecund position. $1800 by the time I left. With the promotion they
were running I ballparked expectation at $25 per hour. I played that bank
for the next 8 hours until I had to make an appointment. It was just about
the only vp I played that trip, though I was surrounded by games for my
entire stay.

Locally at one time I had to make a similar decision to you. I chose the
less nice casino and better return. A lot of my fellow vpFREE list members
made the same choice.

Sometimes I miss the days when I just liked the action.

Interstate 15 between Southern California and Las Vegas is an extremely
busy strip of interstate. Bumper to bumper on many days, especially
around the weekends. A town truck driver out of Baker, California once
told me that "everyone going north is drunk, everyone going south is
pissed off."
