How about a Poll or Link showing the Top 10 casinos with the most positive vp
Nice idea, but the list can be deceptive. When Casino Monte Lago opened, they marketed themselves as having the most full pay games in the Las Vegas metro area. We discovered that they didn't count machines -- they counted GAMES. So, if one machine had 9/6 Jacks, Dueces Wild, Double Bonus, and Double Double Bonus, and if the games were offered in $0.05, $0.25, $0.50 and $1.00 denominations, they would have counted that one machine as 16 GAMES. There were many folks who were brought in by the advertising, only to be disappointed when they couldn't find seats at the relatively small number of machines that offered "hundreds" of games.

MonteLago easily is #1 on that list. For the rest of the runners-up,
you can see a picture of a MonteLago advertsing sign in the Photos
section, although the information is from 2004.

Perhaps that may have existed when the place opened, but it sure
isn't that way now. I have no trouble playing as many 100% games as
I can handle. I visit MonteLago once a week during the evening. It's
practically like having a personal casino; it's that quiet. By the
time I take a meal break in the Cafe around 10PM, I am usually the
sole diner. Toss in the 2X points Mon-Thurs, and some of the best
drinks served by Melinda or Marilyn, plus that great lone machine in
the Tappo Lounge that projects the cards on a big screen; it all
makes for a great break from my regular casinos.

That doesn't surprise me. I haven't played at Casino Monte Lago since they rearranged placement of the full pay Deuces Wild machines and made it impossible for me to play and sit next to my husband.

I can understand why this would annoy you. I would feel very much as
you do if I were there with my husband. We also enjoy playing side by
side and discussing hands, strategy, near misses etc.
However, I would guess that this machine placement is delibrately
ment to discourage single player "machine hogs" from tying up two
good side by side FPDW games, while only ONE is played, for extended
periods of time.
I'm sure that we've have all seen this happen countless times. A good
machine "saved" with a cup over the coin-slot, and a sweater over the
chair. Consequently, a good play remains idle. Not a problem, to be
sure, when there are other like machines available. But frequently
this is not the case.
I'm not sure why the casinos continue to permit this, even for their
very good customers. It seems most unfair, to me, to their other good
customers.
BTW, I am NOT referring to players who save a machine for a few
minutes, while a friend or spouse, uses the facilities. I am only
addressing ONE player, tying up TWO machines, but only actually
playing ONE.

Actually I think the reason was "machine hogs" who were playing two
machines simultaneously. It's hard to believe but their sunglasses,
headphones, ear plugs, bags of food and beverage from home and unique
seat placement centered between two machines didn't disguise their play.

If I were a casino, I would absolutely want to be on that list. By being on that list, I would be attracting many players, most of whom are not advantage players.
Let's say that the casino offers Deuces Wild, with a maximum payout of 100.8%. For every $10,000 in action, the casino would theoretically lose $80 to the people who play perfectly. That being said, there are very few people who play perfectly -- even amongst those who practice and take strategy cards with them to casinos. What happens if you don't play perfectly? If, for example, you play this positive game with 99% accuracy, you'd theoretically lose $20 for that $10,000 in action.
I've heard (and I don't know if it's true) that overall, video poker players play with a 4% error rate. If this is true, then for every $10,000 in action, that game would return $320 to the casino. I believe that this overall error rate includes the relative handful of players who know proper strategy. The losses the casinos incur from advantage players are vastly more than offset by the winnings from inexperienced players. Anyone who has played quarter or nickel full pay Deuces Wild for even a short time, has noticed players next to them who clearly don't know proper strategy - or anything close to it (holding two pairs, holding 4 to a wild royal with 3 deuces, etc.).
Since I'd like to simultaneously have the players think favorably about my casino -- and increase my casino's bottom line, I'd want to be on the list. Note, I would not offer full pay Deuces Wild in just a few machines at the dollar level with good cashback, since this would invite pros, who are more likely to play perfectly (or very close to perfectly).

Though I snipped quite a bit from this (IMO) exceptionally
intelligent post, I think that Lainie's post is right on!
If only the casino suits were as insightful and practical, as Lainie!
As she pointed out, in this win-win situation, we players would
enjoy more plentiful advantage VP, and the casino would not only
still make a profit on most vp players, but also enjoy the
reputation of being a great place to gamble.

I have also heard the 2% number bandied about. It probably breaks down
that a very small percentage play perfectly, while a much larger, but
still small percentage, I'm thinking about 5,000+ member here probably
play at a few tenths of a percent error, and the totally clueless play
at around 4+% error...all in all averaging to 2%.
