What if any hotels are near any of the casinos in detroit. The hotels inside Greektown, Motor City and MGM are too expensive. I am going to Detroit with about 12 other people and none of the casino hotels will give us any deals. Is the hotel next to Greektown good? Please advise. Thanks.
hotels near detroit casinos
You might try the Hilton Garden Inn, which is not too far from Greektown. The Westin and Atheneum are close by but probably cost more.
If you have the Greektown Calendar, there is a coupon for 30% off groups of ten or more, June 1 through September 30.
Greektown has been advertising a $99 room rate. That is probably the week day rate.
There is a Hilton Garden that is a couple blocks from Greektown. There is also the Omni and the Westin but I don't think those 2 will be bargains.
Motor City and MGM are a lot for their rooms. I'm surprised you can't get a good rate from Greektown. If you called up and asked for a group rate, they might think that you are a bunch of non gamblers and quote a high rate. Try calling and asking for 1 or 2 rooms and see what they say. You can also say " I have a rate of xx at the Hilton Garden but would really rather stay in your hotel. What can you do?" Also check out the greektown website for any deals.
Here's a quick search I did on hotels.com. http://www.hotels.com/processIndexSearch.do;jsessionid=17B10BB6ADF8ECF968FB6F02063B59DA.appho04tc01?searchType=&destination=usertyped&fromNewSearchPage=true&acDestinationId=7C182F10-7CB9-43CF-BEB8-FCAEA12CAE11|1D2DEB6C-1C4F-4501-83E9-DEB56C238401|Detroit%2C+MI%2C+USA|CITY&acDestinationType=&lat=&lon=&pointName=&usertypedcity=Detroit%2C+MI&trackType=U&userEnteredDestination=detroit&defaultLandingPageUserType=&checkIn=7%2F24%2F2009&checkOut=7%2F26%2F2009&CIMonth=7&CIDay=24&CIYear=2009&COMonth=7&CODay=26&COYear=2009&numrooms=1&adults[0]=2&child[0]=0&refined=true
The doubletree, hotel riverside and hotel st. regis were all around $75 a night for July 24-26 ( I picked out a weekend at random).
Let us know if you have more questions.

I ended up reserving 2 suites at Atheneum. The cost for each room is $149. They said 5 adults can be in each room. My buddy wants to go to the Detroit Tigers/Cleveland Indians game on july 11 at 7:05 pm. Is the ballpark in walking distance from Atheneum? After the game we are going to spend the night inside greektown. Thanks.

Atheneum is cool and little bit funky. You can easily walk to Comerica from Greektown. I'd say about 4 or 5 blocks. If you don't like that idea, there is a greektown shuttle ( not the casino, the restaurant district) that you can pick up at Fishbone's. Some of the other bars in that area might have shuttles as well.
Welcome to Detroit. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks, I go to Greektown about once a month or so. I am coming here for my friends bachelor party. He wants to go to the game and then gamble a little. We are from Cleveland
