Hotel room tipping

Also, others have access to the room, and esp. if the $$ isn't in an envelope labeled for the housekeeper, it may be considered fair game.

I also try to hand directly to the person doing my room, daily if I see them, esp. since I doubt they pool tips, and I don't want to tip the person who does my room only on checkout when someone else did it during the rest of the stay.

I saw one person ask the front desk to add a tip for housekeeping to their bill when checking out; I'd be curious how that gets processed and distributed.

I have been told by some hotel room cleaning staff that a supervisor checks each
room before and after cleaning. They believe many intended tips left for them
are taken by supervisors. Maybe handing the tip directly to cleaning staff if
possible would be the
best way to assure the right person gets the tip.
