Hotel Room Tipping

I talked to my friend who was the maid seeing the stealing. She worked in
the early 90's at both the Sahara Hotel (no stealing of tips there) and at Motel
6 (Trop/Koval) At the Motel 6 she actually saw the supervisor, a woman, go
in and out of the rooms not cleaned yet. There was no job related reason for
her to do so. My friend said it was blatantly to look for tips to steal. My
friend also said the best way to make sure the maid actually gets the tip is
to leave it under a pillow instead of on the dresser or on top of the bed.

I don't believe that this is a common practice. Any union shop would be on
strike in a minute. I have had housekeeping thank me when they have seen me
leaving my room.
I am a daily tipper. The last thing I would ever do is leave indiscriminate
tips to whoever is in the hall.

My friend worked as a Vegas hotel maid. She said the
maid supervisor goes to all the dirty rooms first and
steals the tips so... try and tip in person if you see
any maids in the hallway. Never mind if they might not
be cleaning your room specifically.
