host recommendations

Hi,

I was assigned a host, Cora Gavino, a while back ago at Silver
Legacy. So far I have been rather unimpressed with her. I have yet
to receive a suite from her, despite a couple of requests (keep in
mind that I play a mix of $1 and $.25 and my SO and I probably put in
a combined 15-40k a day in action when we are there) and she has yet
to return a phone call to me when I leave her a message. And when I
first met her at a Peppermillions event, she didn't seem interested in
meeting me at all.

If you have a good host at the Silver Legacy who is effective and
personable, or at least effective, I would appreciate a
recommendation. Thank you

Oops, I mean Road to a Million. I clearly play in way to many
casinos. So, yes I am looking for a new Silver Legacy host.

Back in 2001, I spoke with Cora about getting a room comped.. I was a
very low limit grinder back in them days. She only comped me at
a 0.5% rate, about 1/2 the going comp rate at that time.

Late last year I made a return trip to RNO and plalced a "cold call"
to Marge Matteoni. She comped my room up front, all 4 nights, based
on my estimate of around $5-7K coinin per day. In addition, she
entered me into the slot tourney they were holding (I think it was a
qualifier to the Road to a Million?)

I ended up giving SL $50K over 4 days (those 100play 9/6 machines
sure rack up the CI!). My room for 4 nights was comped, along with a
$30 giftshop charge and about $200 in food.

I was pleased with my interactions with Marge Matteoni once I arrived
and with the comps I received. She had a platter of cheese/crackers
+ a nice bottle of Carano wine waiting in the room upon our arrival.

So at this point, Marge gets a big thumbs up from me!

Hi Sabyl,

I had an almost identical experience with Cora Gavino. I found her
to be unfriendly, un-responsive and abrasive.

Try Carl Grasso or Marge Matteoni for a much more pleasant
experience.

From what I've heard, however, the SL has tightened up on comps
since they've gone to the new "comp-yourself" plan. I've never been
turned down for any comp that I've requested, from the boothlings.
I wonder if anyone knows if it is still to possible to request comps
from the booth? And, if so, whether they've noticed any change
recently?

I hate to see Cora get a bad-rap as we've been friends for many
years. By nature, Cora is shy and insecure, so she may have problems
with new players (and vice versa). After the "ice melts", she really
is a very warm person. Of course, players should not be expected
to "melt" hosts <g>, so I understand your position.

The new comp system was designed not only to reduce benefits <g>, but
to take pressure off the booth for comp requests. Because boothlings
access the same comp system as the kiosks, don't expect any different
treatment ... other than to refer you to a kiosk for future requests
(or a host if you want something discretionary).

BTW ... there's some new Multi-3 (that's game, denomination, and
line) games accross from the buffet with 10/6/40 DDB. I believe
that's one of your favorites.

Hi 2-Wild,

I didn't mean to be overly harsh in describing my (one) encounter
with Cora (and she did comp my 3 night stay) but her attitude was a
real turn-off for me. So much so, in fact, that I almost by-passed
the SL the following year. I'm very glad that I tried another host
instead, as I do LOVE the place.

I think you would be doing Cora a real kindness if you spoke to her
about the image that she is probably (inadvertently) projecting to
her players. Smiles and kind words can go very far with mist
players. especially when it is necesssary to turn down a request.

That's what I was afraid of! Sob!

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! You are right. It is one of my absolute
favorite plays. I hope it's still there on my next visit, in June.
(Mark, are you listening??)

Best regards and Happy VP to you.
