Hoover Dam

If we need a break from VP during our next visit to LV, my wife and I were
thinking about taking in Hoover Dam. Any suggestions as to the best way to
do that? We will be staying at the LVH, but with no rent-car.

When I went last year, I stayed at the LVH and took a tour of Hoover
Dam via bus. I found their ad in one of the magazines that were in
the room.

What this company did was pick you up in a shuttle bus that took you
to their offices at the North Las Vegas airport. You then
transferred to a coach bus which drove you to the Dam. Cost of the
tour was NOT included... basically you paid for the trip to and from.

Other companies may handle this differently

Hey there BL

If it would be me I would rent wheels for a day. For 3 or 4 rolls of
quarters you have the car all day. You might do the dam, Red Rock and
get in some casino hopping If you have the time a 1/2 day in Laughlin
is nice. You can stop at a couple road house casinos along the way. A
roll of quarters in each might net a royal. I figure if you have
wheels you leave when you want. Save an hour or two waiting for
people to get on & off bus. That's worth a good part of rental right
up front.

A few years back when we flew to LV (we now drive), we made a reservation prior to arrival with grayline for the Hoover dam tour. This also included complimentary shuttles to/from the airport. On the day of the trip they picked us up at our casino and took us to their office that was near the Riviera. The reservation included the dam tour (not the hard hat one tho). They drove us to the AZ side of the dam first for picture opportunity then they went to the parking area for the tour. The one main advantage was that we had our tour tickets and avoided the long lines getting tickets. The only disadvantage was that we got a tour of all the other casinos as they drop people off. I would recommend the bus tour at least for the first time.

I agree. You should rent a car for the day. That way you can also
visit Boulder City and some of the way off lying casinos like the
Casino MonteLago. If you would rather do it on the cheap, eBay has
Hoover Dam/Laughlin tour packages w/ buffett for $6.95.
