I just got back from a short trip to Hollywood Casino at Penn National
in Grantville, PA. I did not have time to check every machine, but I
will give a general overview of what I saw. As far as video poker
goes, I saw nothing better than 8/5 JOB at the $1 level and 7/5 JOB or
6/5 Bonus Poker at the .25 level. The place was about 90% slots with
only one small section with video poker.
The best games are the same electronic blackjack games that have made
an appearance at other PA casinos. There are 3 of these, 1 at the $10
minimum level, 1 at the $15 minimum level, and 1 at the $25 minimum
level. There also was 1 $10 minimum electronic 3 card poker machine.
I know nothing about this game, so I have no idea if the paytable is
similar to real table games elsewhere.
The casino has 3 levels. Slots and most restaurants are on the first
level. A sports bar and simulcast horse betting is on the second
level. The third level houses the new glassed in live horse racing
observation area.
The slot club offers points that can be redeemed for comps. That was
as in depth a description as I got and the literature lying around
wasn't any more detailed than that either. I didn't play enough to
get any idea what anything is worth and the slot club was a zoo anyhow
with all the new signups, so I did not go back up and ask.
The place is quite an upgrade over what was there before which had all
of the atmosphere of a barn, but outside of the few electronic
blackjack games, I didn't see anything worth playing. I live not too
far away and will likely swing by again in the next couple of weeks.
I'll update if I missed something.
