Ho Chunk Casino in Baraboo, Wisconsin

Wisconsin is not very near the top of my list of places I would enjoy leaving Vegas in January for and going to - but I have a "job" there, speaking several times at a couple of seminars for Ho Chunk casino executives and employees. We fly there on the 10th and return on the 14th.

Anything anyone can tell me about VP other than what is in the databases? How is the BJ? Any special bonuses for seniors?

TIA for any help you can give us. Private responses are good unless you think information would be valuable to the group.

Jean or anyone willing to share.... 2004 was the first year I ever
received tax forms for 2 $1.00 Royals (ie. $8000.00 total.) Never
played dollars till this year and never had any big wins to warrant
the tax forms.

I read the Tax Help for Frugal Gambler and such and started a
gambling diary after first Royal to get a start at offsetting the
wins with eventual losses. I document sessions usually on a daily
basis and have requested back up documents such as win-loss and such
to support my diary entries. I will still end up with a net gain for
2004 but every bit helps.

My question is this... when it comes to the IRS and gambling such
things... I obviously keep track of things such as Nevada gambling
and Powerball tickets and such. What about online gambling? Being
that it is overseas in nature is this something that gets included in
the diary? How about things like the workplace football tickets and
the Saturday Guys Night poker game? Being these are not "recognized"
or "state sanctioned" or however you want to term it... do people
leave these off there IRS diaries... are they included... or are they
included but raise red flags??? Just for reference... I've heard of
workplace football number boards with multiple tickets which cost
hundreds of dollars. Of course these are probably not legal as far as
state is concerned so I'm guessing its best not to use these to
offset legit winnings???

Any input would be appreciated.

There are two answers here:

1. Look on page 5 in our tax book - and you will see the word "illegal" in italics, and in the same sentence, "sources anywhere in the world." Read that whole paragraph and you will see the stance that the IRS probably has on the subject.

2. Now do I know anyone who puts office pool winnings and other types of gambling like this on their tax return? No, but perhaps I will met them in heaven when I die - that is, if I get to heaven myself. If everyone who doesn't follow the letter of the law in all government matters goes to hell - well, it is going to be very crowded!
