Hitting a royal flush with maximum bet

Has anyone here ever hit a royal flush with the maximum bet? If so, how many time over how many years? I realize the odds of hitting the maximum payout is quite rare. Just wondering if I will ever hit it in my lifetime.

I ALWAYS, play the maximum coins in or I don't play at all. I'll bet that 95% or more people on this board do the same. I have countless royals over the years with maximum bets as this is very important for your total return percentages.

I am impressed that you have hit countless royals. So are you ahead overall? If you play perfect strategy on a 9/6 JoB machine playing the maximum coins, will you eventually come out ahead? Or does the 99.52% mean that you will probably still lose in the long run? Sorry for all these novice questions. I am still trying to grasp what all the numbers mean. Mike

Many people have hit countless royals over the years. I USED to play short pay machines here on the east coast, but could never get ahead.
Now I only play full pay machines over the last few years and I'm doing much better. ie: early June I netted $2,000 ahead for the week playing mostly Full pay machines at the $.50 level. Rod

You are on the right track. If you play (near) perfect strategy on 9/6 JOB, your expectation is that your losses should converge on 0.5% of your overall action. If you put in 1 million coin through for example, your expected loss is about $5000. Of course, since VP has such high variance, it takes a LOT of hands to get to say 95% confidence that you'll be within +/- 0.1% of your expected results, but with JOB you should definitely plan on losing in the long run. It's not all bad news: Many people find that they can make up the difference (and then some!) through cash back, free play, and other casino rebates.

I have been playing video poker for over 20 years, perhaps 50 hours total, per year, and I hit 2 Royal Flushes. One I held 4 Diamonds, and hit the missing Jack of diamonds. 6 weeks later, I held the Jack of Diamonds and drew all four missing Diamonds. I would never play V/P without playing maximum coins, as I would cut my overall payback significantly. I play Dollar machines, so I won $4,000 each time.

I play max coins on all single line machines EXCEPT for when I have to play dollars to get at least a 1% or more EV. Example: When I go to Blue Chip casino I can play max coin at 9/5 DDB or 7/5 BP for quarters or I can play 99.5 JoB one coin for dollars or NSU at 99.73. I cannot stomach full coin dollars. I never play two, three, or four coin because than I would be better off playing the max and having a much shorter session than risking more to win less. I guess it is a personal and financial choice.
