"As I read my CURRENT PIONEER Nov. newsrag- it is not ALL good news.
Per their extensive writing on the subject (improved, new cashback OR
comps! for players at new rate of $2/pt on ANY machine, and 200 pts =
$1 cb or Xtra play OR comps..........so EQUALS a STRAIGHT .25%)...."

My Pioneer Roundup made it to my mailbox this month. All the columnists do
talk up the changes. They also tout the remodeling project for the exterior,
no more storefront look. Will River Rick survive?
So instead of 1/12% cashback plus 1/4% comps we now get a 1/4% card good for
cashback/comps. That is not that bad. The elimination of the long running
CODs hurts more. They have offered that one in some form as long as I can
remember. That costs us .45% playing Jacks.
The elimination of the free tourneys also diminishes this low roller's EV. I
valued them at $7 a pop over time. I got to do 10 of them in 2007 over my
$14k or so of Pioneer VP coin-in. That is another .5% lost for me.
But you can't beat the monthly Getaway night promo. For years $1k a month
re-qualified you for two more nights for the next trip. In September they
expanded the offer for three nights, in October three nights anytime. November has
expanded to 4 nights, with the 4 day Turkey Day weekend blacked-out. I do
not know if the play requirements have changed, anyone book lately?
Some of you will scoff at staying at the dumpy Pioneer. It suits me just
fine. It is in the middle of Casino Drive. It takes 30 seconds to book. The
gal at the front desk knows me and gets me into my room by 9am. My car is
parked right outside my room. The one shot coffee is the best on the river.
