"Help on progressives"

The other day a gentleman playing the 3-play progressives (nsud bank)
@ Fiesta Henderson was dealt a Royal and cashed out $4800.00 plus.
When the meter reset it reset to approximately $4100.00+ for all even
though all (3) lines reset to $1000.00+

Could someone explain this to a novice? Also, if $3450.00 is the break-
even wouldn't the $4100.00+ meter reset still be a positive play? All
the other players left after the gentlemen hit his royal. I know when
one uses the .39% bounceback rate the game is slightly positive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sure Al.

For a dealt RF on that bank, you are paid the higher of the separate meter
for a dealt or the sum of the 3 individual meters, whichever is higher. By
your description of meters and payouts, the sum of the 3 meters was $4800+
while the dealt meter was $4100+. The person was paid the sum of the 3. When
the sum of the 3 is greater, all 3 individual meters are reset to $1000. Now
a dealt will be paid the "dealt meter" ($4100+) as long as the sum of the 3
individual meters are less.(which is $3000 at the moment.) If a dealt RF is
hit while the dealt meter is higher than the sum of the 3, the person is
paid the dealt meter amount, the dealt meter is reset, and the individual
meters are left as is.

I hope that helped a little bit!

Thanks Randy. I certainly understand a lot more now. As for the second part of the question I guess I answered that myself however, I just don't understand why everybody left the machines.

With the 3 meters at reset and the dealt at $4100 it was under break even. A
real rough estimate of how much the dealt adds to the EV add .1% for every
$2500 the dealt is greater than the sum of the 3 individual meters.

If the breakeven of the machine is approx $3450, then they were
correct to leave. The $4100 is for a DEALT Royal which happens about
once in 640,000 hands.
I total the 3 meters ($3000) subtract from dealt ($4100) leaving
$1100. This multiplied by 0.04 (or divide by 250) and it adds 0.044%

Because of the volatility, etc, I want to play this OVER 101%.
At a total of $4950, you have about 101% without the dealt. If the
dealt were then $14950, it would add 0.4% for a grand total of 101.4%.

There are those who play at any positive number, and for the most
part, are no longer playing because of the tremendous swings in
bankroll.

Look for higher percentages and you might be a long time winner.

Elliott thank you for the additional info. I realize I am still wet behind the ears however, you pass along some wise advice and I certainly appreciate that.
