Hello

Just seeing if anyone is Home ??

Since there is nothing to report about VP in KC, has anyone checked
out the new resturants at Harrahs ? I think they have Moby's, Toby
Keith's and VooDoo lounge, although I believe VDL is more of a concert
venue ??

Jim:

My wife & I have tried Moby's and Toby Keith's. Moby's was ok, we may
have not made the best menu choices. We had oysters on the halfshell
appetizer and fried lobster. It was all good but I think there were
other items on the menu that may have satisfied me more. We also split
an appetizer/snack with a friend, had the shrimp cocktail(huge shrimp),
crab cakes-good and some sort of lime grilled shrimp-also good. Not
much of a wine list. Toby Keith's serves huge portions. We split the
chicken fried steak dinner and it was very good and more than enough
for both of us. Southern style cooking (imo). Hope this helps.

Hi Jim & Kelli,

I answered this message several days ago but it never showed up,
must have went off into the 'bit bucket'. Anyway, we have nothing
to report about the KC casinos since we have been away for the past
two months. We have a small motorhome so we took off for warmer
weather for the winter. However, we did find a casino here and
there to visit. Actually we like to camp at casinos when we are on
the move, some have good campgrounds for a reasonable price, the
rest will let us dry camp in their parking lots. We always feel
safe since casinos have plenty of security.

We spent most of our time with Son and Daughter-in-law in Tucson.
From there we made side trips to area casinos, usually spending a
night or two. In the Tucson area we like the Casino Del Sol. They
have a huge paved parking lot which many RVs find attractive. The
VP is OK, several 3 & 5 play 8/5 Bonus Poker machines in 25 cent.
Plenty of comps and modest cashback.

We also made our annual sojourn to Laughlin where we camped in
Harrah's parking lot along with dozens of other RVs. If you know
Laughlin, this parking lot is at the top of the hill across the
street from Harrah's casino. They also own a convenience store and
gas station at the same location. We found out we could use Total
Reward points to purchase stuff at the store including gas and
propane for the motorhome. Good deal! They had a shuttle on call
to pick us up at the store and transport us down the big hill to the
casino. Harrah's Laughlin buffet is one of the better ones we have
visited so we enjoyed spending TR points in there as well.

The other casino we hit in the area was Harrah's near Phoenix (Ak-
Chin). They also have a great place to dry camp and also attract
RVs by the bunches. Although the buffet is not that great we really
enjoy our visits to Ak-Chin. Again we can use accumulated TR points
for food and drink. They have 8/5 Bonus VP but only at the dollar
level.

We ended our trip in Tunica. Normally, we would end up on the Gulf
Coast and spend a week or so at a wonderful RV park at Casino Magic,
Bay St. Louis. Of course the hurricane preempted those plans
(although I read the RV park is back in operation again but the
casino is still closed). It was quite obvious many other folks were
also visiting Tunica in lieu of Biloxi. The hurricane may have hurt
the Gulf Coast but it sure helped out the casinos in Tunica.

We spent about five days at the Hollywood, our favorite in this
area. They still have the same five 9/6 JoB dollar machines -- the
old coin droppers. Wonder how much longer they will last and if
that will be the end of full pay in Hollywood when they go.
Cashback and comps are good and we enjoyed free food and free
camping in their RV park. A trip to their best restaurant, the
Fairbanks, was the highlight of casino hopping for this trip. The
food and service were both superb, probably the best we have enjoyed
in any casino restaurant including those in Las Vegas.

The last three days were spend at the Grand in conjunction with a
rally sponsored by our motorhome club. The Grand has not yet
converted over to Total Rewards so that was a bummer. Not too
impressed with this place even if it is where all the "money" people
go. We went to the buffet one evening and the place was empty -- a
bad sign. Food was poor and the service lousy. They have Bonus
Aces & Faces as indicated in the VPFree data base but only at the
dollar level. There are no 25 or 50 cent full pay machines.
Period.

We found the buffet at Horseshoe to be most excellent, both food and
service, so made several trips there. They accept Total Reward
points so that was a plus. However, I didn't find any full pay
machines at Horseshoe. In fact hardly any VP machines at all, seems
they mostly cater to slot players.

All in all a good trip although we didn't have many winning
sessions. Guess the highlight of wins was when they called my name
in a drawing at Ak-Chin for $500. We really like and enjoy having
the Total Reward points travel with us and available at any Harrah's
property. Good to be back at 'home camp' and we will be hitting the
local KC casinos very soon.

Fairbanks at Hollywood Tunica is a really excellent rest.
I have only been there twice, and both times the food and service were
really great!!

The horseshoe buffet is one of the best, along with Harrahs Laughlin.
If the shoe would just give us some decent VP, it would be the best
place in Tunica.

Too bad you didnt do better, I was just having a discussion about TR
on another board, not very much return, but having your points never
expire and travel with you are really good benifits that add value to
the Harrahs system. My daughter is starting at CMSU this fall, and we
are already having to go up there for enrollement and such, so I will
most likely be making more trips to KC, hopefully there will still be
some playable games, or I might have to take up knitting.

CMSU, they are in Warrensburg? Just a hop and a skip to KC and the
riverboats. We made the rounds this week collecting coupon cash and
playing games of chance (still no wins). Nothing has changed with
Harrah's, Ameristar or Argosy since we were last there in December.
Ameristar still have four Pick'em in dollar and another dozen or so in
25 cent. That's all they have worth playing. Looks like Prairie Band
is the best bet for this area but they are 1 1/2 hour drive from us,
farther coming from the east side of KC.

Rick

From today's Kansas City Star. Even though Ameristar is HQ'ed in Las
Vegas they own no casinos there.

***********************************************

Ameristar Casinos Inc., the biggest casino operator in Missouri, could
add prime Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J., properties if its
surprise bid Monday for the Aztar Corp. is successful.

Ameristar's $1.5 billion cash offer is the third and so far highest
bid to surface since mid-March for Aztar. The news drove Monday's
trading of Aztar shares to a new 52-week high in apparent anticipation
of a bidding war still to come.

Phoenix-based Aztar owns the Tropicana casinos in Las Vegas and
Atlantic City, riverboat casinos in Caruthersville, Mo.; and
Evansville, Ind.; and the Ramada Express Hotel and Casino in Laughlin,
Nev.

Ameristar operates Missouri casinos in Kansas City and St. Charles and
others in Iowa, Mississippi, Colorado and Nevada.

Aztar stocks closed Monday at $44.60, up $2.61. Ameristar shares were
down $1.78 to $24.01, signaling possible Wall Street wariness of the
richly valued deal.

"We are looking for long-term growth … in two of the largest markets
in the country," Ameristar chief executive officer Craig H. Neilsen
told industry analysts Monday in a conference call.

Aztar's 34-acre Tropicana site in Las Vegas has been called "the last
great site on the Strip." And on Monday, Troy Stremming, Ameristar's
Kansas City-based vice president for governmental affairs, said the
site was at "the hottest intersection in the world," along with the
mega-resorts New York New York, the MGM Grand and Excalibur.

Las Vegas-based Ameristar's offer of $42 a share topped the March 30
bid of $41 a share by Los Angeles-based Colony Capital LLC and the
March 13 offer of $38 a share by Las Vegas-based Pinnacle
Entertainment Corp., tentatively accepted by Aztar.

Including assumed debt, Ameristar said, it valued the deal at $2.25
billion — a stunning 9.7 times multiple of Aztar's estimated 2006 cash
flow of $233 million. Last year Harrah's Entertainment paid a 5.2
multiple for Caesars Entertainment, and MGM Mirage coughed up a 7.2
multiple for the Mandalay Resort Group in two of the biggest mergers
in industry history.

Jim,

Just read your report on your trip to CB. We make the trek from
Kansas City once in a while but usually stay at the Ameristar. Did
you get a chance to check them out while there?

Thanks for bringing us up to date on the Horseshoe (formerly Bluffs
Run). We have been getting offers from them for the past couple months.

BTW I believe both Harrah's and Ameristar are real river boats, not
boat-in-a-moat. In fact Iowa law requires them to sail a certain
number of hours per month.

I did not get a chance to go to Ameristar, I wanted to, but ran out of
time. The Harrahs property is a true boat, but I do believe it is in
a confined space (moat), at least that is what I saw from my room. I
wish Ameristar would start combining points like Harrahs does, it
would have given me more incentive to get over there to check it out.

According to the person behind the desk at the Elite Services office
last time I was there in CB, the cards may be going to some type of combined
property system in the next six months or so. Obviously this is not the
official word, but hopefully it is. Also of interest, CB does honor coupons
time we are in KC.

sent from KC. Not sure about vice versa, but may ask George Gilmore next
