What is going on in Tunica? I read in the local KC paper that Harrah’s has closed and three other casinos have been taken over by creditors. Is this from the general economic conditions or an ominous sign of things going sour in Tunica>

Probably both of your reasons are correct. Caesars Ent. explained that the reason for closing Harrah's Tunica was that it was losing money. They still own the Horseshoe Tunica and the Tunica Roadhouse.

This doesn’t come as a great shock. Since our retirement in 2001 we have traveled traveled in our motorhome literately from border to border and coast to coast, including several Canadian provinces. We have stayed at dozens of casinos along the way with extended stays in Las Vegas (several times), Reno, and Tunica. Once in a great while we run into a rude or otherwise unfriendly casino employee.
However in Tunica that is the norm rather than the exception. As a group the casino employees in Tunica casinos are lazy, rude, belligerent, and racist. This is not to say they are all like that and there are many employees who are nice and friendly but there are enough of the bad ones to sour the experience. We had to stop staying at Harrah’s RV park because the shuttle bus driver who was supposed to pick up guests was so lazy and unreliable. There are many many other examples, too many to list here.
We had some good trips to Tunica and enjoyed staying in the hotel at Harrah’s, the one next to the casino that was within walking distance. Our casino host at Harrah’s was first class and she tried to fix the problems but it was like shoveling sand against the tide.
We did not run into this problem with other casinos in Mississippi – Vicksburg or Gulf Coast – only in Tunica.
It doesn’t matter how well run the company or how dedicated the management, the employees can kill it. In a casino it is the low level employees that most customers come into contact and these are the ones who don’t care.
My wife refuses to go back. Casinos are now all over the Mid-West and new ones are popping up all across the US. We can go to places where they appreciate our business.
