Harrah's

Harrahs Tunica awards about 1 Bonus credit per 1 base credit, on
average when playing their 9/6 JB. That ratio used to be higher, but
they cut back (imagine that...Harrahs cutting back!) a few months
ago.

This means you need about $5K coinin per $10 in comps.

On the plus side, the Tunica location is running an Elvis scratch
card promo (1 card per day) Sun-Thr, Noon-8P. On the 3 scratch cards
we received, we won 500, 1000 and 5000 Bonus Reward Credits.

Harrah's comp situation is certainly nothing to brag about, but

it's not quite as bad as all that. Depending on what you're playing,
you also earn Bonus Credits that apply towards your comps. There's
no set formula for BC and yes, that's irritating. However, any
dollar player who frequents Harrah's will tell you they can eat quite
well based on their play. Finally, I'm not sure where you got the
idea you have to play non-stop without being able to take a break.

If that's correct, and if that's the way it works at Harrah's in

As someone who plays both dollars & quarters depending on that trip's
bankroll, I absolutely agree! We always eat quite well on our trips
including room service. Have spent a week at the shore with my two
Granddaughters & we all ate well on Harrah's mostly, for that week. Also
took my Aunt to see a show & we enjoyed a great meal before the show & the
Diamond club after.
So, even though Harrah's may not match some of the other AC properties in
terms of cash back. The perks we DO get are the ones we are looking for.
Free rooms when we want a quick weekend away. The ability to go to some
great cities on Harrah's and enjoy a vacation without paying for lodging,
having most of our airfare covered & food/show credits. Guess it all depends
what you are looking for from your gambling experience. We love to play VP,
so it in itself is entertainment at a fair price compared to some other
things we could do. We also love to travel, and those comps we earn for
having fun, give us the ability to travel far more often than we would be
able to without them.

Liz

You must mean $5 coin-in for 1 cent comp, not $10 comps. If that were
the case, we would be packing our bags for Tunica and heading out the
door. :wink:

As far as bonus points, it is a rare thing when we get as much as 1
for 1 at Harrah's KC. More often it is 1 bonus for about 18 or 20
base points. I get the impression they just don't much care for
advantage VP players at KC.

<<Jean Scott will beat me around the head and shoulders for not knowing
the answer for sure, but I believe it takes $10 coin-in for 1 point --
VP, less for slots.>>

I'm not into physical violence - and I certainly don't expect everyone to be as nutty frugal as I am!!

However, everyone would probably benefit financially if they made it a habit to check the point build-up EVERY session. This week's Frugal Friday's column gives a very good example of why you should do this:

http://tinyurl.com/7xhd3

The easiest way to keep track of this is to carry a little notebook with you whenever you are in a casino. Have one section where you write down details about the slot club of every casino you visit, i.e., how many dollars to get one point, how many points get you a dollar in cash or comps, etc. You can get this information from the slot club desk sometimes, but a better way is to consult the database here.

You should already be keeping a record of each session you play in some kind of notebook, with win/loss figures at the minimum for the IRS - and other information as you desire, like start and stop times, game played, etc. Putting down your point balance at the beginning and end of the session is also a valuable piece of information to add.

'Hockeystl' just posted (next msg this thread) that there is 1 bonus credit for each 1 base credit earned, so that it takes about $5K of coin-in to earn $10 in comps.

  There's no set formula for BC and yes, that's irritating. However, any dollar player who frequents Harrah's will tell you they can eat quite well based on their play. Finally, I'm not sure where you got the idea you have to play non-stop without being able to take a break.

Re the taking of breaks, I was just doing the math of how long it would take to be comped a ten dollar meal, given the _IF's_ that I had conditioned my post upon. In other words, _IF_ it took $10K coin-in, then at the rate of $1K coin-in per hour (that is what you have when playing full-coin quarters at the rate of 800 games/hour), it would take 10 hours of play before you'd earn your ten dollar meal. Naturally, if you accumulated a total of one hour for all of your little interruptions -- walking to and from the restroom, lighting a cigarette, digging another bill out of your wallet, or standing up to stretch -- all of which temporarily keep you from playing and racking up points -- then you can just add that time to your playing-time to see how long it will be before you comp a meal.

Anyway, it is clear from the first paragraph, above, that it apparently takes only about 5 hours worth of such play to earn a ten dollar meal at Harrah's Tunica. A couple of weeks ago, right next door at the Hollywood casino, I played for maybe 3 or 4 hours while I waited for my wife and daughter to arrive; played JoB-9/6 full-coin quarters, and earned about 76 cash-back points, give or take a couple (I know that it was in the seventies and had not yet hit 80). Each point requires $30.00 of coin-in, so I definitely had LESS than $2,400.00 worth of coin-in, and I was given _THREE_ comped Friday night seafood buffets -- all you can eat broiled lobster tail, etc. At Harrah's, I apparently would NOT have earned _even_half_ of a single ten dollar buffet. Now, on top of that, my 76 or so points at Hollywood were also worth ten cents each, that I could redeem _immediately_ as cashback, while Harrah's has no same day cashback whatsoever.

Cheers.

'Hockeystl' said it right; you just missed noticing the "K", which means 'thousand'. In other words, ...
"$5K coinin per $10 in comps" means Five Thousand Dollars worth of coin-in earns Ten Dollars in comps, and that means the same thing as what you said -- that Five Dollars coin-in earns one cent in comps. Six of one, half-dozen of the other. :wink:

The comps at the Sheraton in Tunica pay 1 point for every 10 dollars
played also. Doesn't seem like it's even worth getting the players
card aye...

Have a good one...

Whoops! You are right, I missed the K and being a computer
professional for 40 years, I definitely know what K means. :wink:

Scott -

As promised, I did a walk through of Harrah's KC today. The AA is all still
there.

Here is a complete listing of the machines with AA:

25c $1 Lower Level
--- --- -----------
6 At the bar
  2 Right across aisle from bar

25c $1 Upper Level
--- --- -----------
10 Two banks of 5, most are labeled "Top Award Pays"
6 New "red" consoles
3 New "red" uprights
  3 New "red" uprights
5 Old "green" uprights
  5 Old "green" uprights

So that's 30 quarter and 10 dollar full pay AA machines. Not too bad for a
Harrah's...

Your right about that buffet, I had the same experience last weekend.
The food was not up to par. Try the seafood buffet at Sam's Town
(Tunica), it's a welcome relief to the one at the Sheraton. Also when
you get comp'd at the Sheraton and they give you a free meal at their
Rio restaurant pass on it, that awful tough and grissly steak was
terrible... hehehe

I know that I am anal (my wife tells me this all the time) and my
bringing this up (just my weak excuse) is probably the teacher in me.

But, in the context below, (and I have seen it many times here and
other places) should not "your" be replaced by "you're"? It seems
(to me anyway) that "your" is consistently misused in this respect.

Another thing that drives me crazy is using "affect" for "effect",
and vice versa.

I know that this is "English usage" and way off topic. I'll sit
here and wait for the "flames" to arrive. :slight_smile:

No flames here. In my experience message board participants cut a lot of slack to those who post. People think and write on the fly and there is often no way to pull a post back and correct a minor error. It is a casual medium and not everyone takes the time to edit. If this were not the case, I might direct some scrutiny to the questionable word "anality." :wink:

I _never_ mention spelling or grammar for several reasons:

1.) 99.99% of the time it is probably unwelcome by both the person who would be criticized as well as the entire group;
2.) it generally does absolutely no good whatsoever, and more often results in an unwanted flame war;
3.) no matter how delicately done, it still seems pretty pompous and pretentious when you come right down to it;
4.) it's about as rude as interrupting the conversation of virtual strangers to tell one of them -- very publicly -- that he/she has either mispronounced or misused a word (now how many confrontations do you think that will start at a little league game?);
5.) as long as you can understand the post, it doesn't really matter, and so you really _are_ being anal ... and a smart-ass;
6.) such mistakes are to be expected when most people don't have the time nor inclination to proof read what they've quickly typed (typing errors?), often when sleepy or distracted by other things, and sometimes while drinking alcohol or using dope;
7.) such errors should be ignored because this ain't no English class; and
8.) last but NOT least, I make plenty of similar mistakes myself even though I'm very educated, yet most folks cut me slack, and I sincerely thank them for that.

But surely you already realized all of the above, and where just trying to pep up the group a bit, right? :slight_smile:

said "where". :slight_smile:

Both seem to work.

Very observant. I had meant to put "were", but you are correct that both of them work and make sense, which just underscores how important punctuation can be.

Yes, I'm sure these mistakes drive you crazy more than the average
person, but they bother me quite a bit also. I think the reason I am
so troubled by them is that they are a reflection of the poor state of
education in this country. What kind of message are we sending to the
world when our own president can barely utter one complete sentence
without making a mistake?

Some of my pet peeves include: "try and" instead of "try to", "should
of" instead of "should have" and for anyone who has flown on Southwest
"drive safe." Pity the poor Adverb: RIP.
