Harrahs World

I was wondering if anyone has gotten the Nov-Jan issue of Harrahs
World or whatever their mag is called. If not, does anyone know when
they send them out? This will be my first one now that I'm a Diamond
card stud (ha!) and I'm anxious to see what it entails.
Thanks.

I think we did get a copy a couple weeks ago, can't be sure about the name but some kind of mag from Harrah's. I am afraid you are in for a disappointment, the magazine (if it is the same one) is not much. It just a lot of bragging about their casinos at different locations. It did have a write up about the renovations at Prairie Band north of Topeka so that inspired us to go check it out. Another disappointment!

What I'm really interested in are the offers that I believe accompany
it. I think they are based on your play and vary, but did you get
any good ones?
Also, is Prairie Band that bad? I have a coupon for the Steak house
and thought I would run out there some time and check it out. If I
ever move up to dollar play I figure I would go out there some due to
them not having a loss limit of $500 and fairly small Hold'Em daily
tourneys. I think that's right?

I don't recall seeing any promos or offers with the magazine. There may have been a couple discount coupons for rooms in Las Vegas but it has been a while and my recollection is a bit fuzzy. Most of our promotions come as direct mail at the first of the month (actually the last of the month for the next month).

No, Prairie Band is not all that bad. My disappointment was in nothing much had been done for the casino during all the renovations. And the really BIG disappointment was the new Diamond lounge which you are now eligible to enter. They do not serve alcohol (not a biggie with me) and charge for food (which is a biggie). We have been in Diamond lounges all over the country and this is the first and only one that charges Diamond players for food. The lounge was very nice but empty and I expect it will get very little use in the future. Why bother, they have nothing to offer.

VP is dismal with the exception of half dozen AA in quarters and another half dozen in dollars. Don't know anything about the live poker.

It is probably worth the trip to check out the place at least once and use your coupon -- steak house is new also. It is nice to gamble with real money and no loss limits for a change.

The casino does have several buses that haul in folks from all over -- they come to Leavenworth where we live twice a week -- so it can get crowded in the middle of the day while the buses are there. We had to wait until a bus started loading before we could get to the AA machines (and I refused to play any of their short pay machines).

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Harrahs World comes quarterly, and you are correct, there offers on
the inside front cover of each issue. The offers, like you said, are
based on play.

The magazine itself is nothing but Harrahs propaganda. ie)Donald
Doofus won $500K playing the Lucky Loser slots at Harrahs! is the
typical gargage filled in the mag. Perfect for kindling a warm fire
this fall.

Unless the drive really bothers you, my advice would be to take a day and try Prairie Band.

It's not for everyone (small buffet and since the improvements, the casino is pretty crowded and somewhat smokey). I've been disappointed by them recently because they cut their quarter AA inventory in half. In the future, I don't envision me going out to HPB more than once or twice a year, and that's mostly just to check for inventory changes.

However, if you're a dollar VP player and you enjoy All American, you might find the trip worthwhile. The dollar multi-game machines (which are consoles and have full pay AA on them) are generally pretty available, even when the casino is crowded. And you're right, there's no stupid $500 loss limit to get in the way.

If I had the bankroll to be a dollar player, I wouldn't hesitate to go out to Prairie Band.

Harrah's Prairie Band used to be one of my favorite casinos. The
customer service was (still is, I suppose) very good and they used to
have at least a dozen quarter and five $1 AA machines. There was
virtually no waiting for my favorite game and the buffet had steaks
on Saturday nights (which I would get for free one way or another).

In 2004 they cut the number of quarter AA machines to less than half
what it was. Only the machines at the bar have it, and a long wait
was unavoidable on Saturdays. Sitting around a casino waiting to
play is my least favorite activity, so I've sort of written off
Prairie Band for now. They still send me promotional coupons and
some of the offers aren't too bad for a Harrah's, including free
rooms in their hotel.

If I had the bankroll to play $1 AA, it would be a different story.
I'd still be going out there.
