Harrah's Treasure Hunt canceled

On Sunday Harrah's was to have its final events in the Treasure Hunt. Some
people were to search strip properties for prizes in the finale for drawings
that occurred last month, while others were to have a final "2nd chance
drawing" at 5pm based on drawings on Sat. night. But at about noontime, while a
contestant was being driven by a Harrah's driver, their car was hit by another
car (an apparent thief who was being chased by police and ran some red
lights hit their van with his speeding car). One of the passengers (the
contestant) was killed, and the driver and female passenger were seriously injured.

Harrah's went into a tizzy and cancelled all the events. Several VP players
in the list were finalists in one or the other events, including myself. I
had won a 2nd chance drawing at Bally's and had gone to Harrah's for the 5pm
drawing. I was told that the drawing will be done by mail, but it is unclear
whether they will finish out this event and award any prizes or not.

Harrah's gave the reason of cancellation - unforseen events. A number of
contestants had traveled from out of town to Vegas just for the first part of
the event. It seemed odd that Harrah's cancelled so abruptly, causing a lot
of confusion. While it was terrible that the accident occurred, a number of
contestants were inconvenienced and little was announced about whether the
prizes will eventually be given out or not.

I spoke to a finalist in the second-chance drawing who said Dawn Rawle
called him personally and told him the event was cancelled but they would
mail out the prizes. As for the primary event, although it was billed as a
treasure hunt if you read the official rules you will find it is a simple
drawing with no skill involved. I am certain they will award the prizes,
perhaps even fairly.

The lack of oversight in casino promotions in general in Nevada is shocking.
Even after the Venetian cheating scandal no one seems concerned with
ensuring the appearance of fairness.

Please, simply add this to the list of Harrahs "I don't really give a
damn about customers."

Why people STILL play at their casinos is a complete mystery to me.
So many other casions offer far service and comps, not to mention
playable video poker schedules.

Want to get screwed every chance possible? Want to continue to play
and NEVER really know how many points you're getting? Want to
contribute to the "profits over people mentality?

Then continue to support a Harrahs establishment.

I think that's taking it way too far. Harrah's has a comp policy I don't
like, and I don't play there as much as I would if they had RFB that didn't
come out of my points. But they have by far the best customer service of any
casino company. No one else comes close.

As far as I know the only thing they canceled was a fun ceremony that, under
the circumstances, might not have been much fun. They didn't cancel the
prizes.
