Harrah's to Give "Just Rewards" to Patrons

They're looking for people who are bringing over $10K in US or

Canadian, and seizing the money if they are and not declaring it. It's
a big profit center for ICE. All of this in defending the citizenry
against a fake war on terror.<<<

Things have changed then since my last trips to WIndsor. I have always told them I'm going to / coming from the casino and they've only asked me about the 10K one time going back to the US side. I guess they took my word for it since I wasn't detained.

It's such an aggravation and hassle that I now have a friend who lives
in Windsor pick me up on the US side and bring me over to the CDN side
(and he takes me back to the US at the conclusion of my trip). He has
a NEXUS card which significantly reduces the chance of getting hassled
at the border(s). If you are driving a rental car across (and not from
the DTW area) and state you're going to the casino then you're
instantly considered to be a possible money launderer or terrorist.

CDN Customs typically grills you a bit but NOTHING like the US side
when you return. Let me put it this way... I've driven a rental car
across three times and have been detained twice while they searched
every square inch of my rental car (including all my personal
belongings). AFAIK I'm not on any lists of suspected terrorists (I fly
about once per week and rarely am the winner of the extra TSA
screening) so I have to think the issue is with my visit to the casino
in Windsor.

While three trips is obviously not enough to state there is a pattern,
it was a big enough PIA that I don't care to go through it again. The
bottom line is if, when returning to the US (and you're not a local
from Detroit), you state you were "at the casino" you should then be
prepared to play twenty questions. It is my understanding that US
Customs is not required to have probable cause in order to detain you
and search all your possessions. The Fourth Amendment goes right out
the window and law abiding US citizens are suspects until proven
innocent.

I find its best to take a bus or train across the border. I was held up once, coming back into the US at Sarnia, Mich. back in the early 80's. They searched my car, my girlfriends purse (not my wife, another girl I dated before her) and checked their computer's to make sure I wasn't a draft doger trying to sneak back into the US (even if I am too young).
If your on a bus or a train, they wont hassel you as much, because they wont hold up a whole bunch of people for one person unless they have a real good reason.
That's my experience anyway.

held up once, coming back into the US at Sarnia, Mich. back in the
early 80's.

Sorry for your luck.

I am thinking that anger management classes may be appropriate for
many of the posters in this thread.

I only wish I had to worry for once in my life that I had more than
$9,999.99 on my person. "Fleas" like me never have to be concerned
about anything other than having a nice vacation in a nice location
that is to some extent subsidized by the casino industry.

My wife and I could travel to the Caribbean and pay about $2000 each
for a week's vacation, airfare, room, and maybe all inclusive F&B.
Then add gambling expense to the total.

But we can go to Vegas, pay for airfare at $350 pp roundtrip, a rental
car for $200 and have $3000 left to gamble as we please. RFB is not an
issue as we only stay where the rooms are comped and never pay for meals.

Yes, we will take advantage of every comped room and meal that comes
our way, and we will probably only have one or two "four or five-star"
dinners. Guess what? We view this as a break-even proposition; we
will play in some tournaments, pick up a couple of gift cards, attend
a concert and a show or two.

If fortune smiles, we will lose less than $3000, if not, we may lose
more. But the gambling will be done in casinos that offer the best
possible paytables that exist as we can vote with our feet and play
(or not) where we are comfortable.

You can find us at Orleans, South Point, The Palms, and Red Red Rock
or GVR starting August 2 for a week. We will stop at other properties
on and off the strip as opportunities, our whims, and the intelligence
we have gleaned from this board (and others) direct us.

It'll be a blast. Hopefully, we'll be able to play enough to cause
all these horrible, nasty, mean and ugly casinos to invite us back for
our next adventure.

GL and Royals to all. Please make sure you do not bankrupt all the
casinos before we get there.

I usually don't have a problem with customs, just don't be a smartass, leave your pistol and weed at home and don't bring back any Cubans (either cigars or illegals) and you will be cool.
