Went on one of Harrah's junkets to Tahoe this weekend with a
room at Harveys. Database indicated some 9/6 Jacks 3/5 play at the
Rendezvous Bar. I was looking for them to no avail when the bartender
asked if he could help. I told him I was looking for the 9/6 Jacks
and he said "Good Luck". I found a suit type slot supervisor and
asked where the quarter and dollar 9/6 Jacks were in the casino. He
didn't know of any, but radioed the head slot mechanic who said there
were none. I told him "I had a pocketful of money, and I guess I will
have to go to Caesar's to play." He seemd surprised that Caesar's had
9/6 Jacks. Anyway, I spent the weekend at Caesar's playing the $
Deuces Deluxe (which are dreadfully slowww) and the full pay pickem.
(Lost a little money). Didn't even play the Jacks at Caesar's since
they had those better plays available. I was actually planning on
giving Harrah's some decent play on the Jacks, even though it was a
negative play with their miserly CB, but I ended up stiffing them. I
don't have to have a positive play on a trip like this, but I won't
just write them a check. I really have a hard time believing that
they do not get a decent hold on a 9/6 JOB play, but it is their
railroad and they can run it any way they want. The 8/5 Bonus
progressive was up and running at Harvey's, but the progressive was
only $4100, so no play there.
The junket trip was a bit of a hassle, and I doubt if I will do
it again. We flew an Allagiant Air charter in an MD-87 (a variant of
an MD-80) that had about 170 seats on the plane (34 rows at 5 seats
per row). Absolutely the most dense seating I have ever seen on an
airplane. When I Googled the MD-87, it showed a maximum seating of
139! I don't ever want to be on that airplane again. Approximately 12-
hours from the time we got to the place you board the buses for the
airport at Tahoe until I got out of the baggage area at Houston
Intercontinental. Very nice room in the Lake Tower, and the scenery
was spectacular.
I guess I like the Vegas offerings better than Tahoe.

Another reason not to go again is if Harrah's takes over Ceasars you
no longer have an option of good games there.

It is too late now, but you could have gone to Bill's next to
Harrahs. It is a Harrah property (no hotel), and they have 9/6 JOB in
that casino. Bills recently took out the FP pick'em, so you just
missed them. I was there on Wednesday myself.

I don't think they'd have an issue with the first part of your
statement. They likely feel they could get a "decent" 9/6 JB hold as
well.
However, if they can pack the house with bodies who are willing to
play games that provide stronger holds than just "decent", they may
very well be better off not crowding out those bodies with others that
give them a lesser hold on JOB.
Keep in mind that if you allow a 2% error cost, and you're allowing
for one player who plays a game with a 100% theo game (incl. comps)
and allow a 2% strategy error cost with one playing 98% less 2%, it
takes twice the coin-in from the JB player to equal the theo of the
poorer game player. Some JB players will step up to the plate and
give the additional machine time; most likely won't ... and those who
do are more likely to be playing more accurately than a 2% error cost.
While I may be playing fast and loose with numbers here (no need to
critique them), the point is that for those casinos that are seeing a
high occupancy rate the elimination of the strongest games can be good
business sense.
On the other hand, if a casino is looking at 20% vacancy through all
but the peak season, they're a fool if they shy away from strong games.

The 9/6 Jacks 3/5 Play are near the Cal Bar, not the Rendezvous Bar.
All the (dollar) progressives have good meters, except for maybe the
8-5 Bonus progressive at Harveys, which is acceptable but not as fast
as the others.
As a general rule, I tend to avoid playing 9-6 Jacks at Harrah's
casinos unless it's the only option. The theoretical assigned to the
Jacks is usually very low.
Actually, Harrah's Tahoe treats their Sevens very well, but frankly,
they need to put some dough into the hotel and improve on the food
quality. While Summit is a perennial fave, the buffet and coffee shop
both need some work, particularly the buffet.
I have mixed feelings regarding Horizon. Their inventory at the lake
is dreadful and it seems like it's been years since they purchased new
machines. Other places in their organization, though, have excellent
VP. One of the best plays of last year was at a Horizon casino
(Paladin just missed it by a couple of days). Something ridiculous,
like over 1.5% on a quarter 50-play/100-play. Don't worry, long gone.
Does that mean the $ pickem is back at Caesars? They used to have
5/2/1$ and 0.25 FP PE, but, starting with the 5$ machines, took
the games down... then the $ machines went (Caesar's Tahoe CB and comps
are pretty good @ 0.5%).

The $1 pick'em are still gone at Caesars. At least they were two
weeks ago. The $2 and $5 are also still gone. The only pick'em's left
are at the quarter level. On a positive note, they also recently
added pick'em at the Lakeside Inn.
