Good observation, Jeff. Don't know if I can agree with you re Harrahs changes
though as pts aren't displayed (at Lake Tahoe) on machines. Must go to slot
club & inquire. Also it takes less play to get pts. For example, it's now $10
VP = 1 pt. Under old system it could be from $16 to $18 depending on machine.
Whether the pts get you as much as before or less now is debatable. As I
avoided using discretionary comps anyway, loss of that had no effect on me & most
players wouldn't get it anyway. At least under this system, comps aren't lost.
Under old system, comps were lost unless you were a frequent visitor. Comps are
now portable between properties which may be a benefit to some. Haven't used
it yet myself as I'd rather cash out for Macy's cards which is the way I like
to use my pts. Bouncebacks don't seem as generous as before. Wish we could
have option of less-generous cashback vs a more-generous bounceback. Really hate
this never-ending return-for-bounceback treadmill that they have us on.
Recently made a decision to get off the treadmill & just play the best games.

"Theoretically", I agree with all of the above. IOW, I also dislike
the trip-average point system and find "a table of what you get for
the points played" very helpful too.

However, while I'm sure(or at least hope, lol) that there's more than
one way to implement these improvements, the above would be an
accurate description of the changes recently made to the
Showboat/Harrahs "Total Rewards program(; they nixed their trip-
averaging and now have such a table you can reference). Yet nearly
everyone you could ask(if not everyone?), myself included, thinks
that the OLD program was significantly better(at least overall).>>

At the AC Showboat, points aren't displayed on the machine while
you're playing. But if you take your card out and put it back in the
machine, you'll usually get a point total(on both banks) before it
returns to the "ACCEPTED" display it shows while you're playing.
Sometimes it says that your point total is "being gathered" instead
of giving you a total, but if you've been playing long enough
(especially at that machine), you'll usually get a total.

I've also noticed that if my wife and I are playing on the same
account, "my" card won't tell me what our combined point total(earned
that day/session) is; I have to check "her" card to see how she's
doing. Even if I'm watching her play(while I'm not playing) for as
long as 30 minutes(or so), "my" card's total stays the same. It's
only by removing and replacing "her" card that we get a "true" point
update.

Comps are now portable between properties which may be a benefit to

Cash comps and food comps seem considerably more "portable" than room
comps. Iow, if I want to get the cash off my TR card, I can do so at
Showboat or Harahs(@AC). But using the room comp offers I get from
Showboat at Harrahs seems to be a "hit or miss" proposition; often
depending on the friendliness/mood of the reservation clerk I get on
the phone. I haven't yet tried using Showboat room comps @Harrahs
online, but I'm skeptical about having success there.

I've heard of using "Harrahs" comps for Macy's cards before, but
don't know if Harrahs AC properties are participating in that. If
they are, they certainly AREN'T promoting/advertising it. Iow, if
they are, it'd be "news to me".

I'm still waiting for Harrahs(or some other casino/casino chain) to
hook up with Upromise, lol.
