Harrah's Reno

We received a letter in the mail for a trip to Harrah's Reno in the
near future. Do they have any decent VP? Usually they are all 97% VP
machines (Harrah's Trademark) is what I have found in the Midwest. Just
wanted to know anyone's experiences or opinions of this place? Were
still not sure if we are going to pull the trigger on this offer but I
thought I would get some unbiased reviews. Thanks in
advance..............

Harrah's Reno has some 9/6 Jacks. But, the problem is you have no
game variety there. So, we usually just play enough to cover the room
and then head to Atlantis or Peppermill where you can find just about
anything you'd like to play. Either one has great restaurants as
well. In fact, for our whole stay the only meal we ever ate at
Harrahs was breakfast.

WARNING: The Reno/Tahoe area has weather-related issues you would
expect this time of year. It can change from 50 degrees today to 10
degrees by Saturday. It truly is beautiful to wake up, open the
curtains and see the snow falling. But then it dawns on you that
you're supposed to leave that day. So, be aware that during the
winter you can be snowed in at any time without much warning. This
happened to us, and we barely got out in time. A good precaution
is having the backup plan of booking the original reservation with
an extra (comped) night built into the dates. We ended up not needing
the extra night and had no problem checking out "early" as the snow
storm started to roll in.

We stayed at Harrahs in Reno this past September and couldn't find anything to play at the quarter level. The place has very few VP machines and the few they have were full most of the time. There may have been a few good machines, but we couldn't get near most of them to check. We tried early in the morning and late at night with no luck. The place is small and very badly layed out and the food wasn't very good.

They have a few 50c (25c 10 coin) and dollar 9/6 jacks

Plenty of good VP at the other downtown casino's or as others have
said, head out to Atlantis or Peppermill.

I'll be heading to Reno this weekend and staying at the Peppermill which had much better pay schedules than Harrah's. I do plan to visit Harrah's and see if I can any of the decent machines listed on VPFree database for Harrah's. My last visit, I did find and played a $1 BP (99.17%). I'll let you know what I find out.

Harrah's reno has a really nice Italian Restaurant called Andreotti. It overlooks one of the busy streets of Reno, and on a snowy day, its great fun looking at the blizard, the cars, and the people below. You can use your Harrah's reward points to pay for the food, but make sure you register at the players club , so they can link your local account up. When I was there , it took them over 1 hour to make the hookup , and the $120 meal for 4 was then all free.
Its not a bad place to stay , in a decent location. Of course when they messed up what used to be a good inventory ( including $1 full pay deuces and pickem ) I moved my downtown home to the El Doradao which is nothing short of fantastic.

best wishes...Tom

Dust off those scouting shoes mikey. As of November there were at
least two better game choice than 9/6 Jacks at HET RNO.

And if I had seen those two games I would have reported them to vpFae.

Did you?

But I have no doubt there are "protected" plays in many casinos. It
still doesn't change my original statement in the least. If you walk
into Atlantis or Peppermill you don't have to do a lot of hunting for
good opportunities. The issue becomes which game to play and for how
much, not if there is anything playable at all. I think most players
here enjoy having that kind of variety readily available. It is a
major deficiency in almost every Harrah's property, not just Reno.

Well must be a secret since they're not on the data base.

The database is an invaluable tool that has helped me and many others
in reducing time and effort in locating opportunities. Think of it as
someone recommending a few great hotels in a large city.

But the database will never expose every advantage play. So, using
my hotel analogy, a member might recommend "The Ritz" but may not
tell you to request the end room on the west side of the 20th
floor. If they do, then they can't stay in it because the room will
already be taken.

It doesn't diminish the fact that they have helped "weed out" a lot
of the work for you in finding a good hotel.

The casinos have created this situation by limiting the number of
playable machines. My stay at Harrahs Reno didn't reveal anything
that isn't in the database. Since I didn't enjoy my stay I'm not sure
a secret "undiscovered" 99.9% 8/5 Super Aces machine would have
changed my opinion anyway. As I previously stated, you are far better
off wandering into Atlantis or Peppermill where an abundance of
opportunities await.
