I won’t question your observations, kelso … but there are suites that have been renovated in the West Tower (I think that’s the tower … closest one to Sammy’s Casino). You may want to specifically request one next time … they’re very attractive and comfortable.
I agree that it’s a crock that Harrah’s discontinued it’s airport shuttle. I prefer the flexibility of a shuttle vs having to reserve a specific limo time (plus, a limo for that short run seems overkill). I often end up catching the shuttle over at Eldorado.
FWIW, I’m drawn to book a Reno/Harrah’s trip 2 or 3 times a year and consider it to be one of the warmest, most hospitable properties I play. There’s no question that business is off, but that’s my observation of the casinos in general in Reno. The economy there is looking up, but there’s a lot of damage still evident from this last downturn.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things improve across the board at Harrah’s-Reno … if for no other reason than that loss of their signature steakhouse would be tragic!

I just came back from a Reno trip and a stay at Harrahs. I would not be surprised if the casino closes in a couple of years. The casino was empty of customers, they have reduced the number of slot machines so there is significant open space in the casino and the place needs to be updated. I had a suite and the carpeting was disgusting – worn and stained. It was also interesting in that at the airport there was a listing of all the casino/hotels and the time that the shuttle leaves the airport for that property. Next to Harrahs, it said “discontinued”. If every other property can offer an airport shuttle then why can’t Harrahs. Guess they will be getting even less customers.
I would not consider the property to be upscale at all.
