We go to Harrah's New Orleans with some regularity, depending on the
offers we receive.
The VP inventory is generally about average for a Harrah's property.
All the video poker machines are found in one area, directly beyond
the table poker pit. If you enter from the Canal street entrance go
towards the back and to the right. If you enter from the Poydras
street entrance, you'll walk through a few ranks of slot machines and
then be right in the middle of the VP area.
The inventory heavily favors .25 machines. The paytables are not
great; I'm sorry I can't be more specific because I don't play them
very much for that reason. They are often crowded, but you can almost
always get a machine, even on a Friday or Saturday night.
There are two rows of $1/$2 machines near the Poydras street entrance
that all have 9/6 JOB, and several other reasonable paytables. These
are my machines of choice, and one of them recently rewarded me with a
nice Royal.
The high limit area has some $5/$10 and higher machines. Their
paytables are good, but I don't venture there!
The Besh Steakhouse is excellent, but be sure to book early if you
want a table on weekends. Other than that, the buffet is about your
only other choice. It's just average, in my opinion. There is an
"Asian" restaurant, but I've never been impressed with it. There is
also a McAllister's Deli, a Starbucks, and a Fuddruckers - definitely
avoid the Fuddruckers. Really, though, with so many outstanding
restaurants in New Orleans, why eat in the casino, even if it's
comped? We've recieved New Orleans offers that included discounts at
K-Pauls Lousiana Kitchen, so ask your host about that - that's one
restaurant you shouldn't miss.
Harrah's recently opened their own hotel, and we've stayed in it twice
since it opened. The rooms are nice, nothing spectacular, but
comfortable. Get them to give you a room high up on the river side of
the hotel, and you'll have some nice views of the Mississippi.
Hope that helps!
We're going to Harrah's New Orleans for Mardi Gras in 2 weeks, and would
appreciate any information regarding VP inventory, the property,
restaurants, etc.
Both Harrah's New Orleans casino services and our host there have been
extremely friendly, helpful, and efficient, and we are really looking
forward to our visit.
We are 7*, go to Caesars Las Vegas 8-10 times a year, but have never
been to
another Harrah's property outside Las Vegas.
According to VP Insider, there are only 2/3 9/6 JOB in quarters, and
about
10 machines containing 50 cent, 1$, or $2 denominations in 9/6 JOB
scattered
around. Is this information still accurate? Are there any other playable
machines (i.e. NSU, etc.)? Any specific machine location information
would
also be very helpful.
You may e-mail me privately if you prefer. Likewise, we would be
happy to
share any information we have on Las Vegas, and specifically Caesars
Palace.
