To add salt to my wounds, at one point on both sides of me were
women playing $1 9/5DDB (and with mediocre strategy to boot)... both
hitting reg and bonus quads while I just kept feeding and feeding. I

Gads!! It also drives me up the wall, when someone who has never
looked at a strategy chart, and is playing a sub-par pay table,
keeps raking it in? I suppose the un-gurus, un-mathheads like Rob
Singer would have a smart answer for these occurances. I think it's
just a matter of having a "lucky seat" during that session. And, I
don't mean the seat that belongs to the casino, but rather the one
you drag behind you. And, of course, this is "only the short-term",
as our Gurus tell us. Some consolation!
My husband always tells me to (a) mind my own business (b) don't
watch other people's play and (c) pay better attention to me own
play, less I get confused, and start making the same dumb mistakes
as the person I've been watching. Usually, I ignore this good
advice. I guess I have an irresistable impulse to snoop on my
neighbor's play. Unless I am really given a VERY hostile look, by
the person being watched, not much discourages me. In my own
defense, I will say that, whenever they snag a big hand, I
congratulate them provusely on their good fortune. This not only
engenders good will, but causes them to keep playing, which, in both
the long and short term, enriches the casino coffers. Hopefully,
this will permit the casino to continue to offer good advantage vp
play to those who can try to exploit it. (Or, on those dark days
that Correna describes above, sit helplessly by, while the not-quite-
so-knowledable grab all the glory!

It wasn't as much a "correction" as it was a way of just simply advising you, since you are new, of a policy of this group. I thought that it was done in a polite way (at least that's what I intended), and I can see that that's how you took it. Well, someone just sent me an email accusing me of 'throwing that in [your] face', and that I'm the biggest violator of policies on this board. If that is really true, then I respectfully apologize to everyone, but I didn't think I was that bad. Sure, I made some off-topic posts, but I didn't start them and I didn't do any worse than others. After reading probably the 20th post against smoking (not exactly vp discussion), I finally responded and it sort of went _essentially_ something like this (this is a rough summary, and not exact quotes):
Them: "I'd punch someone in the face for blowing smoke at me."
Me: "That would be illegal; it would probably be better to 'accidentally' spill a drink in their lap."
Them: "You obviously don't know the law; blowing smoke in my face is aggression, and I can defend myself with force."
Me: (pointing out that I'm a judge) "No, you can't use _excessive_ force, and most places require you to flee when possible."
Them: "What kind of a lousy judge are you, and do you need to graduate from the third grade to be a judge in Arkansas?" ... and somewhere along the line: "I ought to just empty my gun into anyone who blows smoke at me."
Me: "It's not a good idea to make jokes about shooting people because that just helps the anti-gun lobby."
Them: "There is no reason to own a gun unless you're a right-wing gun-nut" -- and at some point reference was made to an AK-47 and that there is no legitimate reason to own one.
Me: "There are too many liberal people -- what I call "gun-grabbers" -- who don't understand the purpose for the 2nd Amendment and who are trying to erode our rights. AK-47s and SKS's (military rifles) can be used for hunting. I own an SKS and use it to hunt."
Them: 'Anyone who takes pleasure in hunting is an ignorant, inbred, redneck' -- at least that was about the essence and attitude of a couple of the last posts.
Me -- well, I didn't even dignify the last anti-hunting posts with an answer, yet I'm the big villain here. Admittedly there was more to it than all of that, but I think that's a fair synopsis of the evolution of the topics.
So I'm the big villain, and the worst violator of policies?? There is something seriously wrong with this picture. Well, I've about had it with what looks like an increasing level of idiocy on this board, so I'm going to unsubscribe from the mailing list for awhile at least until things cool off a bit and hopefully maybe some more new blood (like yourself) will come in. Heh, heh -- I can just hear my critics in the background cheering. But this doesn't mean that I won't come back again sometime to visit on rare occasions, or to share a good find, or maybe discuss something really intriguing like perhaps a new game that I find, ... but for right now, hitting the delete button so much everyday for what little value I get from all of this just isn't worth it anymore. And despite what some people will undoubtedly say, I'm not tucking tail and going off to sulk like some little child; rather, it is just sensible for me to spend my time corresponding on boards which are more pleasant, productive, and now more interesting to me.

Since your last post to me, and the private rsponse you got from
someone else, was the final straw in causing you to withdraw from
membership in this forum, I feel obligated to respond.
1. I took NO offense to your email about "Rob. S.". I assumed,
apparently quite correctly, that you meant no offense either, and
that the post was simply informational. That is the way I read it
and interpreted it, and I am very sorry that others took a different
view, and flamed you once again because of it.
2. In the short time I have been a member of this forum, I have
made my own (private) judgements on the posts of other members. I
always found your posts to be intelligent, articulate, usually well
thought out, and presented in an intersting manner. This is not to
say that I agreed with some of your premises. On the contrary, I
guess I would be labeled (and I don't mind it a bit) as a "gun-
grabbing liberal". I truly believe, down to my soul (which I also
believe I have) that this country would much better off if weapons
were restricted to peace officers, much as they are in rest of the
civilized world. That being said, as some much greater patriots
before me have reinterated, I would fight to my last breath, for
your right to state what you believe! In that context, I hope that
there is room for everyone to express their opinion, on this board.
3. I do think it is better, and certainly less contentious, if we
stick to vp in most of our postings. This subject engenders so many
different opinions, of itself, that I think there is enough
controversy to keep everyone's interest.
4. Bill, I hope you will rethink your decision to resign from the
board, and come back quickly. I, for one, will miss your posts.
