I received an email a couple of weeks ago from a Harrah's employee at
the Rio saying that he was now my Harrah's Laughlin host. Anyone aware
of a host shakeup at Laughlin?
Harrah's Laughlin VP Host Shakeup?
It's an interesting topic. I've been staying and playing at Harrahs-L
for two years now. I've received letters from three different hosts
during that time, "introducing myself as your host" and letting me
know that they "could take care of your reservations for you." Since
that seems to be the extent of what a Harrah's host can do, I've never
met or spoken to any of the three. I make reservations online and pay
food and incidental charges with rewards credits.
Shakeup? Maybe, but they seem to be in regular flux according to my
mail. I'll post if I get mail from a new one, although I'm starting
to forget names.

I am a diamond member with similar experiences over the last
couple of years. Over this time a few host have introduced
themselves to me via a letter. The last one is Helen Schmidt. I
have never made an efort to contact a host either before or while in
Laughlin.
Sometimes I get a suite when checking in, sometimes I have a gift
basket in my room and sometimes my stay is very common. I too
usually reserve a room online in response to an offer received
through the mail. I just sign in and wait for any pleasant
surprise. I do not think any host is involved and wonder if there
would be any consistent difference if I would reserved an offer
through a host.

You should always use a host if and when given one. Try some good
reading material called The frugal gamble by Jean Scott. Excellent
reading. I have a host at the Aquarius and the Ramada and you get an
abundant of things you would not get if you do as yourself and just
check in. A diamond player at Harrahs properties usually is a full
comp as well.. You should look into it. Feel free to email me.
Also on another note a shake up at the Ramada. The GM was replaced
post haste with another one. I play there as well and for the first
time ever got a coupon in the mail for extra cash when I come in...
All the casinos in this town are trying very hard to get and or keep
there clients.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with my colleague on this topic.
Harrah's hosts have been relatively useless to me. I've been
Diamond for two years. I truly don't ask for much of anything, but
every request I've had leads to lots of furrowed brows and decisions
have always been made by someone higher up the food chain than the
host I've questioned. The consensus I gather from my other gambling
friends and my own experience is that there are precious few
discretionary comps given and then only after your Total Rewards
credits have been exhausted. Especially with the turnover that
appears to be happening at Harrah's-L, it doesn't seem worth the
bother to establish a relationship. Just my opinion (of course).
OTOH, I have great hosts at different Boyd and Stations properties
in LV. They have the power to grant discretionary comps and are all
well trained in customer service. They have been very useful to me.
