Harrah's Laughlin 50 Plays

I love the part where your slot host tells you to discuss the matter with the slot dept. when you arrive. My reply to that would be I will not be arriving, either that or a stiff job and check out the other Laughlin casinos.

Regards

I asked my host about this by e-mail and he confirmed it. The e-mails follow:

xxxxxxxxxxxx,
I've been reading on the internet the past few days that there have been some changes to the video poker at your casino. More specifically the jacks or better games have been reported to have had their paytables changed from 9-6 to 8-5 in every denomination from nickels to dollars. Can you shed some light on this as to if it's true and if so why the change was made?

Thanks,
JAMES

His reply:

James,
The reporting was correct and I do not have an answer for why management made the change. That would be a question for the slot department when you arrive. Sorry, but that is something that I am not involved in.
Thanks

As luck would have it, two of us are locked into one of the Allegient charter flights, with a cancellation fee of $578. We are past the 15 day cancellation deadline. OUCH!

We are debating whether to go and not play, or not go and "eat" the $578. Either way is not good. :frowning:

If it were me, I would go and play elsewhere, being sure to let Harrah's know in writing exactly whey they received no play from me (I would also state I would have canceled the reservation if not for the penalty).

I might even book a room in Vegas and rent a car and drive there, being sure to be back the night before departure so as not to miss having my luggage make the flight.

Thanks for the reply. We are looking into a number of contingencies. But, no matter what, we are both unhappy about the situation, almost looking at this as a "bait and switch".

Yeah, I know that sounds whiney. But, it feels good to jump up and down and rant and rave sometimes.

Over the past couple of years, I has been offered dozens of free charter flights on Allegiant, to almost every HET casino in the
US.

For various reasons I have never accepted one of their offers.
Once, I was considering an offer from ORD to Laughlin, mostly
because there are no other direct flights to Laughlin from ORD.
When I called to reserve the flight and free room, I changed my
mind due to the very inconvenient flight times.

At no time, during our conversation, was a "cancellation penalty"
ever mentioned. To your knowledge, is this SOP with all Allegiant
charter flights? If so, I will be sure to NEVER accept a charter
flight offer from HET. Sometimes things happen that can require trip cancellation, at any time. The regular airline cancellation
fee of $100, is enough for me, thank you! I think that $578 is
both egregious and ridiculous. }}O:

As to "eating" the fee, I would be disinclined to do so if I was
still looking forward to going to Laughlin. There are other casinos in Laughlin that still offer excellent, even positive VP, at lower denoms. You might want to check on vpFREE2, or the Laughlin site.

I know players who have stayed at various HET properties several times, given them no play, and not even seen reduced offers as a
result. Of course, this is always a crapshoot, and is done at your
own risk.

If you do go, have fun, and come home with a profit!

~Babe~

Yes, it's SOP for Allegiant. I've heard of both 30 and 15 day cancellation penalties. $578 is the 'retail' price for two to take the flight. About a year ago I had to cancel a IFP charter within the 15 day window. I was told the Air Charter Dept would attempt to fill the seats and if they were successful my penalty would be zippo. They filled and I paid nada. As with all things casino-related...keep asking until you receive the answer you're looking for.

I share your frustration, as those were a lot of fun to play, and I did my DIAD on them a few years back. However, there are still some plays left at Harrah's Laughlin. There are some $1/$2 NSUD (unless those are gone too), which is actually a better play than the 9/6 JOB. If you are a quarter player, head down to the Pioneer where they just added a lot of full paytables games including FPDW. No problem to get a seat.

Yes, it was stated strongly up front to me on my initial phone call what the cancellation policy was. Canceling within 15 days of the flight, you pay for the entire trip, in our case 2 x $278.

With a Doctor's/Hospital's opinion on "official" stationery that you are not able to travel, the cancellation fee is waived.

Actually the NSUD were NOT a better play than the 9/6 JB hundred plays. Think....'theo'.

Yes, I was told this as well. But, of course, there is no guarantee that they would/could fill our unused seats.

Actually, I am not at all upset about the cancellation fee (if we choose to not go). I am complaining about the loss of the VP play that we were planning on, causing us possibly to choose not to go.

I forgot to add...if your national HET ADT is high there's some room for negotiation... If you book through NCM that's another agent that can work on your behalf so you don't end up eating any fees.

Personally, as Jigger said, I'd just take the trip. If HET sees a bunch of guests flying in on their dime...then not playing because of the 100play downgrades they might reverse their decision. It's actually happened more than once at HET properties....

I concur......as I tried for a few more pts last week (still short for D. renewal, and probably won't happen now)....

"Short term" even a few 1000 hands at $5/play is MUCH less of a loss rate on those 50ps vs. SGL-line game, even if the SGL-line game has slightly better e.v (not by much!).

Martin.
Snooping around there are actually some 'fullpay' 9-6-4 DDBs around, for diehard DDB players (which is not the 10-6 version, but beats their 8/5s and 9/5 even with progressives).... SOME 9/7 DB also exists, but I no longer play DB type games.... 'theo.' on that is killer also.

I do not think that you are taking unfair advantage of HE by stiffing them since they are the ones that changed the terms of the agreement by changing the pay tables. If you could cancel with no penalty then perhaps you might feel that you are taking advantage by stiffing them, but not under this scenario--no way. Would you feel that you should either forfeit $500+ or play anyway if they made the paytable for their best game 6/4 JOB after you had booked the trip? Same thing--just haggling over the price. I have flown this charter to Laughlin a couple of times and found it to be a very enjoyable trip; and there are certainly a lot of other places to play if that is what you want to do.
