Harrah's Diamond in a Day

Got my Harrah's Diamond status at Reno. At the Sports Book bar are
9/6 JOB machines that can be played at 50cents or $1. They've also
got quarter games, but it goes down to 9/5 JOB with a progressives.
The seats are fine, the bar-top machines are good, the staff
friendly, & the drinks quite better than standard casino fare.

It was a painless process. I played the dollar JOB for 2+ hours,
going down about $600 on a quad-less streak, but then started making
up for it (held a bare ace & drew quad fives; then shortly after got
dealt the same hand A5555; etc; etc). Took a break with my buddy, saw
I had >$20 comps, which we used for a nice soup & salad at the coffee
shop upstairs.

Then back to the bar (no problem finding a couple of empty seats on a
Saturday afternoon) for a couple more hours of play.

One reason I post this is that when I went to the Total Rewards desk
afterwards to get my card, the booth person was clueless, kept on
looking blankly as I asked for my Diamond in a Day. Eventually she
had to call a higher-up who confirmed that I'd gotten it, & they
printed out my cards on the spot. So the moral is that you may have
to insist a bit before getting your due.

The Diamond status is good till end of year, with 3 month grace
period. I still don't know how much I'll actually get out of it. The
Diamond Lounge in Reno was nothing... maybe we hit it wrong time of
day, but the snacks & atmosphere suffered in comparison with, say,
the Atlantis concierge lounge. I haven't gotten any special offers
yet, but I'll wait & see. The few hours spent getting it were fun & I
made a small profit without a royal, so nothing lost in any case.

One reason for this is that "Diamond in a Day" is a player catch
phrase for the option, not Harrah's terminology. It think they refer
to it as something like one-day or same-day Diamond qualification.

Advice is to confirm the program with the Rewards desk before
beginning play. I don't think this option is offered by all Harrah's
casinos. Find out how they specifically refer to it for when you
return after play.

Diamond Lounge in Reno was nothing...

The key value is if you occasionally stay ... Diamond lines at check
in, the coffee shop, and the card desk makes it very valuable. Access
to the Diamond Lounge is at minimum, a modest convenience -- it's nice
to sit back, relax, and eat at your leisure (although during busy
hours, you may feel some self-asserted pressure due to the line length
to get in). Some Diamond Lounges are particularly nice.

The way I look at it is that if you assume a modest .2% cb, Jacks is a
negative .25% game -- or a $50 cost to the $20K Diamond qualifiation
(not factoring in comps). That's worth it to me, even if I should use
it only 3 or 4 times a year. (And yes, I do think in terms of theo
and not my actual $1100 loss this year to extend after a relatively
inactive Harrah's year in 2004.)

I think when they insert your card they only see total points earned
for the year and need to go to another screen to see points earned
that day.

When I earned mine, I went to the desk and said that I came to be
upgraded. She says but you need (some amount) of points that would
have taken me to Platinum level. I said that I had earned over 2000
points that day and thought I should be upgraded to Diamond. She
switched screens and agreed and my card was issued on the spot.
