Harrah's Bad Reputation

It looks to me like Harrah's wants to be the Walmart of the gaming industry.
Walmart has gained their reputation by the poor treatment of their vendors and
employees. I believe in Harrah's case you can add the customers to this list.

Harrah's is a true corporation run by some marketing
brains from P&G and Harvard (I'm not making that up).
They segment their marketplace very carefully. That
segmentation means, if you're a 50 year old woman from
Kansas who loves dollar slots, you'll positively love
Harrah's. If you're a pretty knowledgeable gambler
not so much. I suspect it's the forum you're reading
that's giving you the bad Harrah's vibe. Neither side
has what the other wants.

Interesting observation ! I can see where you might get that impression. However, if your observation proves to be correct, Harrah's will not get my business. I do not spend one cent with Wal-Mart !! However, I must say that on my few visits to Harrah's Metropolis , IL , the staff there was the best I have ever encountered at any casino. The casino overall and VP selection is awful but the staff was wonderful !

I'm confused by your comment. From everything I've heard and seen, Harrah's has been fabulous to its employees. Everyone I've ever met who works for Harrah's really likes working for them...

Based on your post, it seems that you didn't find it impressive that after Katrina, Harrah's kept all employees (even the ones who worked in casinos that they had recently purchased) on payroll for three months. I know I'd like to work for someone who cared about their employees that much.

Gripe about their dis-advantage pay tables, their comp rate or their lack of cash back, but it's not right to smear a company for being a responsible corporate player.

Astute point. Moreover, if you're a young VP hustler from, not so
coincidentially, Kansas, and know how to play AA, there's a pretty
good opportunity waiting for you near Topeka. Just don't make yourself
too much at home...

I should make an additional point here...outside of Vegas, which
Harrahs considers a captive market (i.e. we're gonna treat the players
like the marks they are), the VP isn't that bad. I mean, who else
offered $2 FPDW (Harvey's) in 2004? Joliet is probably one of the ten
best places to play VP in the country. When they feel they have to
compete, they compete.

OTOH, it was Harrahs buying out competitors which killed one
spectacular play and one merely very good one. They're better at
finding stuff than I am, and I think I'm pretty good at it.
