Harrah's Bad Reputation

Being fairly new to gaming, I am interested in knowing what Harrah's
has done (or maybe not done ) to earn itself such a bad reputation in
the gaming industry. There seems to be a vast overwhelming dislike
for Harrah's among casino clientele . Is this bad reputation a well
deserved one on Harrah's part or is Harrah's simply disliked b/c they
have become such a big player in the gaming industry???

I think Harrah's has a great reputation in the gaming industry. Their
customer service is unparalleled and they are extremely generous with
low-end offers for minimal play.

They have a deservedly bad reputation among smart, frequent gamblers, many
of whom are on this list, because they offer games with poor odds, are
relatively stingy with food comps, and their marketing offers are usually
worth very little.

For a few years, I have been going to the Spa at the Flamingo for massages.
Pre-harrahfacation, the cost for a 50-minute massage was $65 (with a
discount just for having a Connection Card).

This past weekend, I went to the Flamingo players club to get a comp for the
Spa that afternoon (using dollars in my Total Rewards account). The
representative told me that, now that Flamingo is a Harrah's hotel, the
costs of massages have increased and discounts are only offered to Platinum
and Diamond members. Since I was only Gold, the representative 'upgraded'
me to Platinum so that I could get the discount. She did this on her own,
without my asking.

The new 'discounted' cost for a 50-minute massage is $80.25. That's $15
more, now that Harrah's has taken over. :frowning: That's one reason why *I*
don't like Harrah's.

Like anything else, it has its good points and its bad points.

Harrahs is really good for people who like to get free rooms for gaming-oriented vacations -- and really bad for professionals (because of the pay tables). Despite all the disses that Harrahs gets on this board, I like Harrahs because when I go in on an offer, my account doesn't start out "in the hole," and I don't get my comp account "dinged" for the room. It's really easy to access my account through their website, and it's really easy to book offers online. Having Diamond status is great because it gets you access to Diamond lounges (which in most properties, gives you free snacks, mini-meals and beverages), priority seating in restaurants, priority parking/valet and other benefits.

On the downside, I've found that their hosts are pretty much useless, their comp rate is very low, and they don't always honor the details of confirmed reservations.

  Like I said, it's a mixed bag.

I personally have nothing against Harrah's. I know very little about them and I have never stayed or played at any of their properties except the riverboat in Metropolis, IL . The casino there is just okay. Nothing special ! The VP there is as bad as it gets I think. However, the employees there are the best I have ever encountered at any casino.

Most of my play has been in Tunica (not Harrah's properties) and as everyone knows Harrah's has now taken over many of the casino's there. Every trip to Tunica, I hear over and over bad word of mouth about Harrah's. In the casino's, on the buses, and in the restaurants. I am just amazed by the negative talk I hear concerning Harrah's. I posted the question wondering why Harrah's seemed to have such a bad reputation b/c I thought everyone might know something that I had missed. Like I said, I have nothing against Harrah's but wondered if there was any valid reason for all the bad word of mouth circulating in Tunica regarding Harrah's properties. I have been a long time player at the Grand and it now belongs to Harrah's. It should all be converted over to Harrah's by April 2006 . Therefore, I just wondered if all the bad talk was just talk or if there was really some valid reasons behind the bad mouthing of Harrah's..
