Harrah's at it again

I was in KC the week before Christmas and Harrah's had a lot of VP machines disabled. I didn't have any luck playing VP.

I went back 1/3-1/5 and the machines are back on, however the 25 cent full pay Draw Poker uprights are scheduled for removal on 1/7.

I didn't get a chance to play VP this trip.

We were there today and all (as in ALL) full pay machines were gone.
The uprights, the slant tops, everything. There were all new machines
in place, mostly US Poker (All American but downgraded to 150 for
4oak) and Pick A Pair (another brand name for Pick'Em). It remains to
be seen what the denominations and payouts will be since none were
operational.

Lucky Lucy and I are getting ready to hit the road for a two-month
road trip in our motorhome so I will not be around to see what the new
machines will be. I strongly suspect all will be short pay as that
has been the trend at Harrah's. To that end I will remove all
references to full pay machines on the VPFree database. I would
rather someone came to KC and found good machines (suprise)than making
a trip expecting to play full pay and finding none. If and when
someone checks out the new machines would you please post the results
on this group. If there are any machines worth mentioning I can post
them to the database while on the road.

Editorial comment: I firmly believe the high rollers -- call them
semi-pros -- have killed the VP at Harrah's KC (and maybe in Las Vegas
and other venues). We have watched it unfold here in KC. First it
was the All American with a team from Las Vegas camping on the
machines for a week untill Harrah's took them down. Then a half dozen
or so high rollers camped on the $5 Job and Pick'Em that were left
until they were removed. They immediately moved to the $2 Job and
Pick'Em and team played them out of existance. We witnessed one guy
calling his buddy on a cell phone telling him he was taking a break so
the buddy came and took over the machine. Anytime there was a
multi-point day these guys came out in force and no one else could get
close to a decent machine. One guy had 5,000,000 Total Reward points,
said he was ready to cash them in for a new car.

As bad as I hate to admit it, I can see the casino's point of view.
They are not in business to provide an opportunity for someone to make
a living off their machines. These pros and semi-pros are killing the
good play for us recreational players. It is becoming quite clear
that Harrah's does not want these people's business in spite of thier
seven star status.

Once again, please send me the information on the new machines and I
will update the database.

Thanks,
Rick
