Happy Birthday to anonymous: 100 grand royal

I was happily playing $1 triple play in the wealthy sucker, er, high-
limit room at the GVR, when I heard an ungodly amount of screaming
and yelling coming from the single-liner VP area....turns out some
young guy hit a $25 Bonus Poker machine for a $100,000 royal!!!

Unfortunately, he was with several friends, the girls in particular
wouldn't stop shouting and carrying on during the long drawn out
lengthy process of verifying that the machine hadn't malfunctioned,
the player hadn't poured a bourbon in the coin slot, etc. etc. etc.
etc. etc. Turns out it was his birthday, as well.

Becuase of the girly noise, I didn't stick around for the actual
presentation of the money (and the ritual seppuku of the slot
manager), but I HOPE they gave him a check instead of a bushel
basket of money. I have the sneaking suspicion that this is actually
the worst possible thing that could happen to this young fellow;
now, he's HOOKED, but GOOD. And if continues to visit Vegas and play
them $25 machines, it won't be long till it's all gone--and some
more after it as well. Oh well, I hope he has a sensible friend who
will tell him to make a down payment on a condo or something with
the $$$, but judging from the drunken screaming meemies he was
hanging out with, I don't think THAT'S very likely....

BTW, can anyone tell me what's so wonderful, contemporary, cool,
with-it, and sophisticated about rap music? The main GVR floor has a
contemporary 80's/90's/top 40 mix playing on its speakers. You go
into the sucker, er, high-limit room and you get urban ghetto boom-
box music, ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME. It's REALLY ANNOYING. I'm told the
girl bartender selects the music for the room (and the adjacent high-
limit tables). Does anybody really think that the $100+/hand bettors
are of a demographic that ENJOYS this gangsta drool? Interestingly,
I and other frequent visitors have complained--but to no avail. Is
rap music a proven tool to make you stupider? It seems as if the
Palms believes that, so maybe GVR does, too, but is targeting only
its juiciest fish....

Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm new to this list and can't figure out what casino you're talking about, i.e., "GVR." Can someone fill this newby in?? I went to the Glossary page hoping casino abbreviations would be there, but I didn't see any. Sorry for the trouble. Exciting story by the way!
