Rule of thumb: Check the other Laughlin promotions first before wasting
time
on Harrahs Promotions. I have told Harrahs many times that their weak
promotions were no incentive for staying there. I stay there because they
have the
best combination of rooms & food but I avoid the promotions. A few years ago
when they had 4 OAK promotions, I won 3 out of the 4 days (3 winners/day)
that I participated but it only totaled $250 + some stuff that I didn't want
&
that's when I figured out that my play would have done much better
elsewhere.
On subsequent trips to Harrahs I did play heavily elsewhere & did much
better
promotion-wise. Even though I had earned a lot of drawing tickets, I gave
them away to local friends who didn't gamble much & would be happy with the
few
small prizes (on average). Most of the time I wouldn't stop play to get the
drawing tickets & suggested that tickets be awarded based on say 50
pts/ticket or some such schedule so that we wouldn't have to wait & floor
people
wouldn't have to run around. As usual, they listened politely & did nothing.
However, this is typical of most Harrahs properties in NV where most
promotions
are over-hyped & overvalued so don't expect any changes as this has been
going
on for a long time.

This current promo is fairly painless, but not much value either. You can
only earn 20 extra swipes per month at 50 Base points.
It seams like HET/Hamlet Holdings is not doing those National Promos anymore
with the Big Bang Finale (BBF) somewhere 2-3 weeks out from the 6-8 week promo
period. Laughlin did those daily 5pm paper drawings for these for a long
time. The value, besides the daily small token prizes was the invite back for
the BBF.
As a low roller that 2/3 comped night (weekends sometimes) invite for the BBF
added alot of value. But once I acheived Diamond (Jan 2005) I was getting
the special room offer anyway for the BBF. Other value was the extra entries
into the BBF by winning a daily drawing. Usually it took 25 Base to earn one
entry. Giving you 50 entries was equivalent of $12.5k of VP action. They did
another special drawing just for daily winners too. But, if you were not
going to be in-house for the BBF the daily drawing was a waste of time.
The last paper drawing promo ended around Easter this year. For over a year
it took $50 hits on the 50-plays to get tickets instead of quads. Quarter
players still got tickets for quads. I guess the point is moot since I saw the
marketing/promo people burning the plywood drawing drum on the beach and
singing the Happy-Happy-Joy-Joy song.
My 34 Tier points this year could be the only action H-L gets from me. As a
drive-in low roller I find the offerings better mid-Casino Drive.
