Just got back from a trip to Vegas. Was invited a few months back to
participate in a $10,000 video poker tournament at Green Valley
Ranch 6/17 - 6/18. Since the offer included 3 nights accomodations,
I figured what the heck....hadn't been to Vegas in over a year and
had the itch. The game played was 10/6 DDB - 2 15 minute sessions or
1000 credits - whichever came first.
On the first day I had 995 points won and was down to my last 5
credits when I held an AH. Hit draw and got dealt the 10H, JH, QH
and KH for a royal!!! Finished in first place going into the 2nd
session. Someone else had also hit a royal and was behind me by 110
points.
On the second day I could not even get a 4 of a kind...finished with
795 points. Overall I finished with 5700 points...the other person
who hit the royal came in first with 6100 points. Considering it
did not cost me anything to enter I was quite happy with 2nd place
$2,000.
Played a progressive 9/5 DDB and hit the aces with the kicker for
$622. Played the Optimum machine 10/6 DDB (near Fatburgers) and hit
5 four of a kind Aces (on $20) plus a few more four of a
kinds...cashed out at $1200. Needless to say.. I now love GVR.
Also stayed at Rio a few days....wasteland - no full pay machines to
be found in the lower denominations - but wound up holding my
own.Left NY with $1,000...came home with alittle over $5,000. So all
in all a great trip!!!
