Guy Savoy sucks (XVP)

Accepted a free room offer from Caesars featuring $500 credit at Guy Savoy's last weekend. The dining room is very nice; 2nd floor with good strip views. And the staff is very attentive, almost annoying so: trying to have a conversation is almost impossible with the waves of waiters insisting on interrupting to explain the nature of the latest morsel in hushed, heavily accented tones which were usually incomprehensible. The food came in comically small portions (I swear, one appetizer was served in a shot glass). The prawn appetizer contained no identifiable prawns and had the appearance and texture of chilled jellyfish. The sole and scallops were both quite good. Dessert was just plain silly; some sort of candy-store cart. Good wine. Total tab: $339 for two. Sheesh. Eat at Hugo's or Pearl for half the price and get some decent gourmet fare.

I'm so glad you said that! When I was last at Caesars's I went to the second floor where Guy
Savoy's restaurant is located to browse the menu. I had to stifle myself from howling with
laughter having rarely seen such a pretentious claptrap of a menu with prices to match.

I ended up that evening having another wonderfully memorable meal at Bradley Ogden
with exquisitely discreet service and excellent wine. Though expensive it is a bargain
compared to Savoy's prices. Also higly commendable is the tasting menu at Emeril's at the
MGM either with or without the wine parings. IMHO it is as good as you'll find virtually
anywhere in Las Vegas and relatively reasonable to the other high price pretenders in the
fine gourmet stakes.
