Before it became Grand Sierra, Reno Hilton was burned by people going for
discretionary comps. All the hosts from the RH days are gone but their
supervisor is still there. I would guess that most larger casinos track
discretionaries which exploded after the Frugal Gambler books came out. I rarely
use it unless they tell me upfront that I'm getting it. Discretionary comps
do help your pocket book in avoiding costs but, as casinos get more
sophisticated in their tracking systems & fed up by the abusers, they will/are
charge for it in the form of offers/free play. I never did subscribe to what
was advocated in the Frugal books & I think that has helped me. If you gamble
enough to get everything comped, I would advise letting the casino save a
few bucks by not going for the last dimes & pennies that weren't the reason
you came anyway.

The sharper play at GSR is to take the $ as CB and get a discretionary.
At what level do you need to play at to get discretionary food comps? I
dropped in one day (w/ no prior history at GSR) and played $15k, and the
host on duty wouldn't budge.
