Thanks for the report, Johnny! I was wondering how it all went, as I had to
work and couldn't attend. Agreed, smacking buffet patrons for 18% is pretty
rotten, especially when the price is so high. But then, it is MGM, so
nothing they do really surprises me any more.
Congrats to Peg on her very good night at Greektown! WooHoo!
Hopefully we can get Slotguy to check in on the future of that $1
progressive bar. As far as the comp expiration, everything you said is exactly as I
was told by a boothling about a year ago. You have to have some kind of
activity in your comp account at least once in a 6-month span or they simply disapp
ear.

A good time was had by all at the VP Free Detroit meet yesterday. We met at
the MGM buffet. Thanks to Ann Arbor Bob for providing some extra buffet
coupons.? There were 9 of us all together:
VP Pappy and Mrs. Pappy
Tom from Canton
Preston
Nick, Mrs. Nick and another friend of their ( I'm bad with names)
John and Peggy.
Nick had to go and get his wife and friend from the machines so got split
up. This actually worked out because MGM will hit you with an 18% automatic
gratuity on parties of 8 or more. I think that is robbery at a buffet.? We did
end up sitting only a couple tables apart so it all worked out. The wait was
about 45 minutes because it was crab leg night. For me, a 45 minute wait for
snow crab legs isn't worth it. However, the rest of the spread is pretty
tasty. $32.99 is high for a buffet but there were plenty of people there. I'm sure
there were a lot of freebie coupons plus there was a Tiger game so that
might have been some of the traffic.
Afterwards, Peg and went to Greektown ( now about 8 PM). Peg assured me that
we would leave by 10 at the latest. Well, Peg sat down at the Bonus Deuces
progressive , $1650 when she sat down, and I sat down at the poker table. At
11:00 PM, Peg calls me to ask when we are leaving. I was in a hand and was
involved in the next 2 hands so I called her back 10 minutes later. The phone
was ringing when she hit the progressive for $1730. 35 minutes later, when she
finally got paid, she wandered over to the $0.02 quick hits and hit for $250
more by getting 7 of the 9 quick hit symbols. 8 would have been $2000 and 9
would have been $11,000. We ended up leaving about 12:30 AM.
All in all, a good night.
At? Greektown, we noticed the $1 progressive bar on the second floor is no
more. Also, there is major work on the first floor. I hope the $ progressive
returns. That is a fun play even if the meter is pretty slow.
One more thing about Greektown. Comps do expire, even if you play. I'm sure
of the actual duration but if you play a bunch in January and then play every
month after that and take no comps, the amount earned in January does
disappear. I'm guessing it is 6 months but that has not been confirmed.
Use them as you go.
The next meeting will probably be in July. Hope to see you all at the next
gathering.
