EH and I are enjoying sunny, warm weather, and cold Cub's baseball. I guess that they're saving themselves for the World Series, in this, their 101st year of futility. {{O:
Yesterday we made the hour plus drive from Mesa to Harrah's Ak Chin for our annual visit.
We were relieved to find that the bank of six MG/MD slant-tops near the high limit area, still contain $1.00 9/6JOB and 8/5BP. The 25c and 50c games are ugly (6/5JOB etc.)
I also checked out the 9/7/5DB octagonal bank, near the buffet, and found the pay table unchanged.
I am assuming that with the plethora of casino competition in Southern AZ (most notably Ft. McDowell, which also offers NSUD at the .25c and 50c level) that HET decided to keep the few good pay tables intact.
I had a mailer for $100 FP, plus other offers which included N ADDITIONAL $50.00 of FP, two free buffets, and a 3X points multipler. Of course we used them all.
Including the $150 of FP, I managed to end up $10.00 ahead for the trip. Since I had been down $300, prior to collecting the FP, I thought that I did well. EH came back to exactly even, sfter being down $200, but didn't quit since I was still playing, snd wound up down $100.
Our play generated approximately $35 in comps. Since we only stayed
there for about two hours, and had already consumed the mediocre buffet, I frivously spent the comps in the very over priced gift shop.
Since I had no intention of visiting a HET casino again, w/i the six months before the comps expired, I thought it was better than just having the points vanish, as they did last year.
The lunch buffet ($10.00) was pretty bad. No fresh fruit. Scant fresh veggies, Lots of heavily breaded and deep fried stuff. I would give it one half star, at best. Only the price was right, at zero cost.
We found the casino to be very smoky. Sitting at the good bank of machines, we were the only two players who were not smoking.
The casino floor was populated with many seniors in wheelchairs, scooters, using walkers and canes, some dragging portable oxygen cannisters. This did not deter them from puffing away on cigarettes.
If you're in Phoenix area, and feel like indulging in a bit of VP,
Harrah's Ak Chin is not a bad place for a few hours of diversion.
We have eaten at both the Steak House and the Coffee Shop, and can attest that the food is much better than at the buffet.
