Green Valley resort fee

The last several months my wife and I have received postcards offering us a free night. This month as usual we booked back-to-back nights. We were required to go to the front desk after our first night to reactivate our keys for the second night. When we did so we were informed of a $7.99 a night resort fee despite the fact that we were comped. They said that it took effect on July 1. When we objected to the fee which we were never informed of, they waived it. Has anyone else had this experience at Green Valley?

Just stayed five nights. No extra fees of any kind. Maybe they got
so much flack about it that it went as quickly as it came.
