I know the Greektown valet gets their share of lumps so I would like to report on a great job by them.
I left Greektown last night about 11:30 and as the valet pulled my car up, they went to the far outside lane ( valet drop off). Uh oh. The valet got out of the car and looked at the driver's side ( which I could not see from the building). I walked over and he announced that I had a flat tire on the driver's side rear. I wasn't too happy, called my wife and was deciding what to do when he said "Sorry for the inconvenience, I'll fix it". Ok. After searching for the wheel locks , jack, jackstand ( I had accumulated quite a bit of stuff in the trunk) they got the car ready and then decided to see if the tire would hold air. They brought over the Greektown van with an airtank. Before the van came, I told them I could just call AAA. The valet said no, he would be happy to change it.
Now, the 2 valets got soaked in the rain last night and a supervisor was watching the entire operation. After about 45 minutes, the mini spare was on, the flat tire was in my trunk and I gave the valet the valet slip and $10. He refused to take it. I said that I insist and he refused again. I finally said you guys spent almost an hour, got soaked and saved me time and mess. The least you can do take the $10. Once again they apologized for the inconvenience and thanked for coming to Greektown and for the tip.
I didn't get the fellow's name but he was working 11:30 PM - 12:30 AM Wednesday night/Thursday morning. He was maybe 30, black, stocky, about 5' 10" with dark glasses.
Steve, I will be sending a note to Greektown to thank them for their service. You might not think so, but people remember stuff like this for a long, long time and it will be the topic of discussion for a while.
Greektown Valet, that job was above and beyond the call of duty.
