Johnny,
Comps are freebies that the casino gives you to reward you for
gambling, and if you are going to gamble in casinos anyway, it's
stupid not to get your share. Just try walking in the door and
asking
a casino for a free meal. See how far that gets you.

you
get that meal for no dollars out of your pocket is because you are
risking your sizable bankroll at their casino.

comped meal means I have played a considerable amount and the
casino
is rebating me part of my expected loss. If the comp rate is .2%, I
have run $9500 through a video poker machine to get that 'free'
meal.

in Las Vegas are not free. They are part of a very loosely defined
policy where I risk my money at one of their casino games and they
bring me drinks. That is very, very different from free.

Terry, I'm going to disagree with your first statement. We may be
mincing words buts comps are not freebies. That's like saying the $10
mail in rebate I get in the mail for a $100 DVD purchase is a
freebie. It's not. I have to do something ( gamble ) in order for the
casino to present me with a meal coupon. I 'pay' for that meal with
my casino play.
The second statement is true. If you are going to gamble anyway, get
your fair share ( or even more than your fair share) of the comp pie.
But don't dillude yourself into thinking that meal you ate is free.
That thinking is casino marketing at its best.
Don't get me wrong. Comps are good. But comps are not freebies from
the casino. As for the quotes in your post, some are true and some
have a lot of 'casino thinking' in them. The Rob Wiser quote comes to
mind as casino thinking.
