Greektown buffet and MGM

Nick,

We tried the buffet on Monday around 7:30 PM. I think you were being kind with your review.

The place is laid out strangly. There is only one entrance /exit and they are next to each other so it gets very conjested. Lots of empty tables on Monday evening but it still took 25 minutes to be seated.

The food selection is sparse. When we went, there were lots of empty trays. We asked one of the servers if they were going to be refilled and he just shrugged his shoulders. At the mexican station, there was no corn chips, tacos or tortillas. The salad bar didn't have much to choose from and it was difficult for me, at 6'1" to reach many of the items on the salad bar.

The only hit of the entire spread was the lamp chops. The pizza was good, but either left out too long or not available.

Overall, the execution was bad. Labels on back order for the food? C'mon. A laptop, a printer and a laminator takes care of that. They should have expected some crowds since it was a Monday between Christmas and New Years when many people have time off from work. Empty tables and waiting lines shouldn't happen at the same time. If I paid $19 for that, I would have been very bummed.

I also stopped at MGM and after playing 100 points through to get my 400 bonus points, I cashed out and had a ticket jam. I waited for about 15 minutes and finally I flagged down a suit. He came by and asked how he could help. I explained the ticket jam. He apologized, said he could not fix it but would find someone who could and then said he would wait with me until the person arrived. After a minute or so, he saw a tech, went over to the tech and pointed out where I was and then came back and waited with me until the tech arrived. The suit's name was Cedric and told him he was probably the nicest MGM employee I ever encountered.

So, MGM is trying to bring customer service back into the mix and Greektown reminds me a lot of the Detroit Lions. You want to root for them to make it but they sure make it tough.

Happy New Year to all.
